Egypt’s Head Coach Queiroz Faces Sack

Egypt’s Head Coach Queiroz Faces Sack

Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president Ahmed Megahed has revealed that national team coach Carlos Queiroz will be sacked before the end of his contract if he does not satisfy a certain condition.

Nine games into his tenure as Egypt manager, Portugese coach Queiroz faces the risk of losing his job if the Pharoahs fail to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The seven-time African champions are among the 10 African teams that advanced from the group stage of qualification to the play-off round for the World Cup.

Five spots are up for grabs for African nations at the showpiece, with the play-off draw set be conducted on 26 January 2022.

The draw had initially been scheduled for 18 December, but following a CAF Extraordinary Assembly, it was decided that it should be pushed back to January next year.

In that meeting, members also agreed that the seeding of teams would be based on the January 2022 FIFA rankings, whereby the five highest-ranked nations will be drawn against the five unseeded sides.

As it stands, Egypt is the sixth highest-ranked African country in the world, with Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Nigeria ahead of them.

EFA president Megahed has now revealed that Queiroz will be shown the door if he fails to guide the north African giants to the global tournament.

“Queiroz’s contract with the national team ends by the end of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar; if we fail to qualify, the contract is automatically terminated,” Megahed said, per KingFut.

“If it was up to me, I’d offer Queiroz a new contract that ends in 2026, I’ll recommend that to whoever comes after me.

“The main reason Queiroz came to Egypt is to qualify for the World Cup, but with the performance, I am seeing right now, I believe we can win the Africa Cup of Nations.”

Meanwhile, Queiroz will hope to guide his side to the final of the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup, when they face Tunisia in today’s semi-finals.

They will take on the Super Eagles in their Group D opener at next year’s AFCON.

Belmadi have warned you Africans and I hope you all will have a rethink sooner or later about this tag name “foreign coach”

You are seeking for help from an outsider to solve your own problem when you can invest on your own people?

The history is there now and I don’t think Africa as a continent can win the world cup if they refuse to invest more locally.

Indigenous coach is the answer to African football period.

If a world class coach failed to build a strong team for a country like Nigeria over the past five years. Then no comment. Instead, he kept recycling players and goalies then what is the purpose of hiring a foreign coach?

All is missing in Africa is accountability. We have to be transparent in everything we do. Shikena. God bless Nigeria!!!

Pls @Omo9ja what makes Grandpa Rohr a world class coach? He never even coached any of the big teams in Africa or even d big clubs in Africa and u are calling him a world class coach??? He is no where near World Class jare… But like u hv pointed out, i support the idea of giving room to our own to grow and develop even if it means on the Job then so be it. It is the On-the-job experience they gather that will help them do better…

    • Football is a results business. You can choose to hire you national man and get mediocre results or hire a foreigner based on merit

Look at Egypt they hired an ex Real Madrid coach a Portuguese man I can tell you that 100% they will qualify for World Cup

Just pray they don’t meet naija

He was Iran coach in 2014 WC with Keshi in charge and it ended in 0-0 draw

Look at preparations for nations cup no friendly matches planned with a North African team or west African team

By the end of March Africans will be wiser. The coaches of the 5 nations qualifying for the FIFA World Cup will be acknowledged as the best on the continent currently. It’s simple maths and logic.

  • That man will qualify Egypt for that world cup. He has always qualified every country he coached to world cup Iran, Portugal etc. A certain Danny Jordan once said and predicted that Egypt will qualify for world cup because he has a track records of qualifying every nations he coach for world cup and that could be the reason Egyp went for him when it look impossible with their local coach then. Can one see the Egyptian FA president talk about target? I just pray Nigeria is not group with this Egypt for that WCQ match because something is telling me Nigeria is likely to be pair with them if we eventually maintain the top 5 ranking by January.
