England Need batting hero – Broad

Stuart Broad says England will need to bat very well in their second innings if they are to avoid defeat to the West Indies in Antigua.

The Windies produced a disciplined display on day two of the second Test to carefully build a lead of 85 runs, reaching stumps on 272-6 with Kraigg Brathwaite (49), John Campbell (47) and Shai Hope (41) all making valuable contributions.

Darren Bravo will resume on 33 on Saturday after showing great patience on a tricky pitch at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

However, what turned out to be a frustrating day for England could have been much better had they taken more of their opportunities, three dropped catches proving particularly costly.

After being dismissed for 187 in the first innings, Broad, who took 3-42 on day two, says it is up to the batsmen to get England back into the Test match with a strong second innings, believing the tourists have shown enough with the ball to suggest they can level the series if given an opportunity.

“We are still in this game, there is a lot fight in that dressing room,” Broad, told Sky Sports. “Anything can happen. If someone plays an outstanding knock we can still win this Test.

If we give ourselves a chance of 140 or above we know we are a good team when the pressure is on. “We’ve got enough as a bowling unit to put them under pressure on a fourth-day pitch.”

England trail 1-0 in the three-match Test series after a 381-run loss to the West Indies in Barbados.
