Man City broke the deadlock in the 84th minute courtesy of O’Reilly. Nunes raced clear down the right before sending a low ball across the box which was met by the unmarked left-back and the impressive 20-year-old made no mistake from six yards.
Substitute Kovacic added a second in injury time to take the game beyond Everton’s reach.
City move into fourth place, just one point behind Newcastle United prior to the Magpies’ clash with Aston Villa, while Everton remain in 13th place, having lost a Premier League game at home for the first time since January.
