Semi Ajayi has expressed his delight following Hull City’s stunning victory over Manchester United in Saturday’s Premier League encounter.
The Tigers claimed an impressive 2-0 win over Michael Carrick’s side at the MKM Stadium.
Ajayi opened the scoring for the hosts in the 17th minute, reacting quickly to slot the ball home after Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens had denied Oli McBurnie from a corner.
The goal was a historic one for Hull City, as it marked their first in the Premier League in nine years.
Ajayi Happy With Historic Strike
The Nigeria international was thrilled to play a key role in the memorable victory and expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance in the keenly contested encounter.

“It was amazing. It kind of capped off the really good start that we had. We had a couple of chances before that which we didn’t manage to put away, but obviously that one got us into the lead, and also gave us something to protect, but also build on,” Ajayi told TNT Sports.
“I’m buzzing to get the goal to get us underway. I’m happy it left us getting three points.”
Hull City Must Maintain Focus
Ajayi, however, urged Sergej Jakirović’s side to remain focused and maintain their concentration despite the impressive victory.
“We’re not really focusing on outside noise. We’re just worried about what goes on in the changing room. We know what we’ve got in the changing room, we believe in ourselves, and we back ourselves to do our best every single day,” added the centre-back.
“So, more performances like this, and hopefully, we’ll have a really, really positive season.”

I saw the name Belloumi in Hull City’s line up, and wondered if he was related to Algeria ;legend Lakhdar Belloumi. Sure enough, he’s his son. Not too shabby either. He had a good game.
When you consider the performance of Semi Ajayi in this game, the way he contained the very dangerous Cunha, the way he marshaled the Hull City defense with skill, competence and confidence, you again wonder how Nigeria with so many quality players failed to qualify for not one, but two, I repeat, two world cups.
At Hull City, Ajayi is paid on time and well taken care of.
With Nigeria, NFF refuses to pay him his match bonuses and subjects him to substandard treatment.
So that explains the performance gap. At least partially. There are of course other issues. But this is a big one.
Those that say Ajayi should still perform based on patriotism, should demand the same patriotism from NFF.
Yes indeed, NFF should be patriotic and pay players and coaches promptly.
And if they lack the competence to do the job, for love of country, they should step aside and allow others to give it a try.
