Following a 3-0 loss to Arsenal on opening day of the Premier League season, Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has disclosed that his newly promoted side will use the match as a valuable learning curve to understand the elite standard required in the top flight.
Arsenal opened their title defence with a routine 3-0 win at the Emirates Stadium via goals from Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, and Martin Ødegaard.

Coventry struggled to create major chances against the reigning standard-bearers, managing limited threat while Arsenal controlled the tempo.
Lampard in a chat with Sky Sport, noted that Arsenal played like champions and admitted it was a harsh welcome, but he emphasized that a tough away fixture against top-tier opposition will not define Coventry’s season.
He urged his squad to stay calm, absorb the tactical lessons from the Emirates, and turn their focus toward upcoming fixtures against more comparable opponents.
“Clearly a big challenge. Fantastic team, a good lesson for our boys to see the levels. They played like champions.
“It was a difficult game for us, the experience of it is probably good for us in terms of the stadium, the atmosphere at the start of the game, the quality that they have.

“When you concede goals, not great from us and that’s the reality.”
On what he learned: “You’ll see more from us than that. Arsenal will beat a lot of teams here. There were some bits I didn’t mind.
“The lads deserve better than that. Our support was amazing. They understand we lost the game and will learn a lesson.”
