Maguire Forgets To Wait For Coin Toss As He Captains United (Video)

Thursday night was understandably a proud night for Harry Maguire as he featured in his inaugural European fixture and, perhaps more impressively, wearing the captain’s armband for the very first time.

But it seems the big summer signing is not used to the responsibilities of a captain as he forgot to wait for the coin toss.

BT Sport cameras captured Partizan skipper and goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic waiting patiently for the England international to join him at the centre circle. And when he refused to arrive, the video showed referee Xavier Estrada Fernandez alert him to come over. Realizing his error, he jogged over and exchanged pendants with Partizan captain, Gusto as the referee asked him to choose between red and blue, instead of the two sides of a coin.

After the match, the 26-year-old came up with an excuse on Twitter, stating how long it has been since last captained a side.

The Europa League group stage meeting in Serbia was Maguire’s first occasion wearing the armband since his move to Manchester United and his 10th appearance in a United shirt since his summer move from Leicester.

He had to step in as captain due to Ashley Young and De Gea’s absence.
