Argentina legend Diego Maradona has named late Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano as the greatest footballer ever ahead of the likes of Pele, compatriot Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Maradona made the claim while speaking in an interview with AS Argentina.

Di Stefano was born in Buenos Aires in 1926 and passed away in 2014 at the age of 88 years.
He played for Madrid from 1953 to 1964, scoring 216 in 282 appearances.
The two-time Ballon d’Or winner won eight Laliga titles, five European Cup (now Champions League) one Copa del Rey and one Intercontinental Cup (defunct).
And speaking on Di Stefano as the greatest player ever, Maradona said: “I think the best was Di Stefano.
“He was superior to everyone, including me. Pele did not want to recognize Di Stefano. Pele’s friends invented a trophy for him as the living legend of football. But even I have beaten him to become one of the best players in history.”
When asked how many Ballon d’Or awards he thinks he would have won had he still been playing, Maradona replied: “I think I would have had many. But Messi’s record would still remain superior to mine.”

Lol! Diego Amandp Maradona Is full of humour and I admit would make a Fine jester. Seriously, Alfredo Di Stefano greater than Pele. Please give me a break . If he was greater how come no player around the world have ever mentioned him as he main reason why they’re playing football till this very day and moment . Stefano is known little in Africa snd in Asia and in the USA
But Pele is known world wide . He is still the. Man to beat because he won the world cup three times . He scored more than a thousand goal in his football career and is the reason why the under 17 world cup was formed because he played for the senior team at that very age and eon the world cup, his first St that very age . Although I believe that you Maradona have your own opinions , but the deeds of Pele speaks for itself. Pele made world football Beautiful. .
