    NFF Can’t Afford Renard –Aghahowa

James AgberebiBy James AgberebiAugust 10, 202420 Comments2 Mins Read

Former Nigerian international Julius Aghahowa believes the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) won’t be able to afford Herve Renard’s salary after he demanded to be paid $125,000 a month to take over as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.

Recall that the Eagles are still without a head coach after Finidi George resigned from the role in June.

In the past, Renard has led Zambia and Ivory Coast to the Africa Cup of Nations titles in 2012 and 2015, respectively.

He also coached Morocco at the 2018 World Cup.

However, in a chat with Brila FM, Aghahowa stated that the NFF can’t afford his price tag.

He also advised the football house to look inward and appoint a good local coach to manage the Super Eagles.

“The coach (Herve Renard) is a very good coach, he has experience; when it comes to African football and even world football, we have to be realistic. Can we afford him with the price tag?” Aghahowa told Brila FM.

“Even when the former coach was handling the team and he was earning about $50,000 to 70,000, it was difficult for us to pay him. We were owing him for months, and now we are talking about almost double of that amount, where are we going to get the money from?”

“We might not pay them as much as the foreign coaches, but pay them well, give them enough time to build the team, and I have confidence in our local coaches.”

Presently in Nigeria, what should be in our mind is cost cutting or saving costs.
World cup no be by fire by force. With the seriousness of our players we will surely qualify for nations cup. Samson Siasia will be ready in few months time. We can combine Samson Siasia with Amuneke to coach our team for now pending the time our economy improves.
For Nigeria to become great again government must reduce excessive spending including spendings of Senators and House of rep members.

      God bless Nigeria.

We are in serious trouble if NFF can’t really afford a 1.5 million dollar a year coach. Where did all the grants and money from FIFA go? There needs to be a forensic audit in that NFF. They get money from the govt, sponsorships, and Afcon prize money. Why is NFF broke? can they tell us?

        Hahahaha…..NFF cannot afford $3m — $4m to pay a coach for 2 years to qualify for a world cup that will guarantee at least…..I repeat….at least a $30m windfall….LMAOoo.

When we say these people are daft, their disciples on CSN will draw swords against us on their behalf.

Wether we like it or not, this current financial situation is still part of the consequences of missing out of the last WC…..LMAOoo….and we all know the genesis of it too.

Ndi “let’s fail with our own”…..this is part of what failure brings even in the long term.

Brother I’m fed up with these bunch of clueless kleptocrats who have no vision or plan for our football. Lmaooo we have failed with our own like 3 times now from the time Jimmy made that statement. Zambia, Zimbabwe, and even Central African Republic have foreign coaches who they pay monthly, and I have never heard of them being owed. The CAR coach that led his team to beat us in Lagos is still in charge….Shame on NFF.

THIS SHOW THAT NIGERIA IS IN BIG PROBLEM DUE TO SELFISH INTEREST OF MANAGEMENT. AND THIS WILL DEFINITELY DETERMINE HOW WELL NIGERIA WILL BE IN FUTURE WHETHER IN SPORTS OR POLITICS.
WE CLAIM TO BE GIANT OF AFRICA, BLESSED WITH VARIOUS MINERAL RESOURCES, CRUDE OIL, BUT WE CANNOT AVOID THE WAGES OF STANDARD (GRADE-A) FOREIGN COACHES, WE CANNOT SINGLEHANDEDLY HOSTING AFCON MORE THAN ONE TIMES & CANNOT BOOSTED OF INTERNATIONAL STANDARD SPORTS FACILITY. WHAT A SHAME!!!!!!!¡!
WHEN COUNTRY LIKE TUNISIA, GHANA, ZAMBIA, CIV, EGYPT , CAMEROON CAN AVOID THE WAGES OF R.LAMERRE, H.RENARD,GORA ERIKKSON, C.QUEIROX, HENRI MITCHEL, THEN WHAT STOPING NFF IN ENGAGING TOP ONE.
What all our leaders(gov., NFF) know is to engage/employ someone that they will be sharing their salaries and pushing him up & down.
        ** SHAMELESS LEADERSHIP
        ** SHAMELESS MANAGEMENT.
        ** SHAMELESS NFF

We may not qualify for both the world cup and Afcon the the NFF is doing with our sports.

This is why I’m not bothered that much about our sports.

If not because of Pompei, Dr. Drey, Ay, Deo and Kel that would be worried that omo9ja has moved on and not interested in watching Nigeria Football, but what should I do, my country is my country.

NFF will eventually handing over the Super Eagles to Siasia or Amunike but why wasting time like this?

Nobody should blame our own if nothing goes wrong in the end. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

NFF should hire Eric Chelle as a quality coach for Super Eagles , he has got an excellent biography for his coaching career with Mali team , he has administerated about 22 matches has won 14 matches , has drawn in three, has lost five matches , he has just defeated South Africa in the last AFCON. qualifier 2022 in Cameroon , so I think he should be assited with Daniel Amokache , Sylvanus Okpala , Ike Shoronmu , he will build formidable and strong new SE then he will lead SE to new era…

Our penny wise, pound foolish accountant NFF president and his board of incorrigible dullards can’t generate the funds to pay a quality coach. Really? The Nigeria FA must be the only FA in the world that has no clue regarding how to use football to generate revenues.
The irony of the situation is that these dunces are sitting on a huge market, a lucrative market that if properly harnessed, can yield bountiful revenues. Yet, here we are like the proverbial man who lives near a river, but has no water to wash his hands before a meal.
Even if their mumu is such that they can’t generate football revenues, what about the revenue our players earned through tournament participation?
What happened to the 2014 and 2018 world cup participation fees?
Where is the money from SE sponsorship deals?
What happened to the 2019 Afcon money, the prize we received for winning bronze?
2023 Afcon saw us getting $4 million for our silver medal. WHERE IS IT? WHAT WAS DONE WITH IT?
NFF ONIGBESE think Nigerians are fools. All these money that we need to fund our football, WHERE O WHERE HAVE THEY GONE?
They misappropriate the funds, then they come out and tell Nigerians there is no money.
Of course, there won’t be any money if the money has been stolen!
Can the government please with FIFA’s permission conduct a thorough financial investigation of these hoodlums in the Glass House? A fine tooth comb should be run through our financial records, funds received from FIFA and other sources needs to be accounted for TO THE PENNY.

I remember back then, before they eventually sat up and hired Rohr, I think, Jonathan threatened to disband the NFF, daring FIFA’s wrath and hammer. The board then begged and said they would change. We saw the changes then.

How can any public organization be left without an audit? A Nigerian agency for that matter!!! It’s a recipe for disaster!

The previous boards even did things with conscience and accounted for some of the monies received from myriad sources, including FIFA subventions and tournament winnings. But these ones currently there are milking their FUFA-accorded IMMUNITY to the maximum, and the government is afraid to interfere. They answer to no one, least of all the fans.

Of COurse they are. And now we paying people salary that really shouldn’t be earning a penny from NFF, that money must be used to pay a quality coach.. Period. WHy is Nigeria like this Who is paying these ex Internationals.?

No, he didn’t but his price went up when he won Afcon with Zambia and Ivory coast….His money even went higher when he led Saudi to beat the eventual world champions Argentina lol….$1.5 mill is not that much for someone who knows his self-worth. Your NFF are just useless debtors and thieving potbellied dullards.

      Gbenga,

The question to ask is, is Herve Renard the only suitable expat coach out there?

I am sorry but these people are fools. The Sports Ministry and NFF are playing table tennis ping pong between themselves on this matter.

NFF wanted to retain their cheap Finidi but the Sports Ministry requested a foreign coach. The NFF then presents a foreign coach only for the same Sports Ministry to say he is too expensive.

Please recall, we would have had a foreign coach instead of Finidi to start with but the Sports Ministry washed their hands from funding the coach, hence NFF settled with Finidi. Finidi failed, Sports Ministry requested a foreign coach which is now too expensive.

What is the meaning of this merry-go-round nonsense?

Now we hear the office of the federal government rejected one of the candidates, which further introduced another dynamic into the equation.

      It’s all a joke!!

It has started. Las las either Eguavoen or Siasia would coach the team in the September games.

JAMB has introduced a new multiple choice kweshon.
Which African country has no coach for their men’s senior national football team?
      A) SENEGAL
      B) ZAMBIA
      C) NIGERIA
      D) GUINEA
Hmmm. I wonder which answer is the correct one. Can anyone assist me? I need to pass JAMB this year, make man see road enter uni.

Why are you all complaining now. When Finidi came in so they can save some money was dismissed because there was no bribe to collect again. Now they want to go for the ones that will not part with a dime. Let them cut their clothes according to their size. Why waste money on coaches that will not live in Nigeria. Only come in when we have matches, and his salary will be ongoing. Abeg look inward and let this Journeymen go and rest.
