NFF Will Soon Announce Substantive Coach For Eagles — Pinnick

James AgberebiBy James AgberebiJanuary 4, 202528 Comments1 Min Read

Former president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, has hinted that the NFF will announce the appointment of a substantive coach for the Super Eagles before the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Since June 2024, the NFF has been without a permanent head coach, with Augustine Eguavoen stepping in to manage the team’s affairs.

However, Pinnick, in a chat on Friday’s edition of Channels Television’s Sports Tonight, said that the NFF is working round the clock to appoint a capable and enterprising foreign coach for the team.

“Any moment from now, I am sure they would be announcing a coach, an enterprising coach at that,” he said.

Currently, the Super Eagles are in fifth place in Group C of the FIFA World Cup qualification standings, having yet to secure a victory in their first four matches.

The team faces the formidable task of winning all their remaining games to have a shot at qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

Good development. All we need is a good foreign coach, we have the players and the pedigree to qualify for the WorldCup next year here in North America.

If we can win our next two games to start from there we will surely qualify.

Exactly. Once we beat Rwanda in Uyo on March 17th and Zimbabwe away on the 24th, then the dynamics in the group will change, and panic will set in for both Rohr and Broos.

It’s a pity, though, that our most recent loss at home was to the same Rwanda, which could be some form of psychological edge for them.

Lookman and Osimhen must stay injury-free this period, abeg, even if it means deliberately avoiding hard tackles or half-scoring chances in club matches.

Hopefully, Gusau will announce the consort of coaches Pinnick hinted about for the SE this January.

YOU PEOPLE ARE NOT SERIOUS RIGHT FROM DAY ONE PASEIRO LEFT. YOU(NFF) PROMISED NIGERIA THAT THEY WILL GET A FOREIGN COACH BEFORE NEXT WORLD CUP QUALIFIER AFTER AFCON QUALIFIERS .. BUT NOW, NO ANY COACH YET, WHAT A SHAME !!!!!!!!!!.
EVEN COMMON TOGO, MALAWI, MAURITANIA, CAPE-VERDE HAVE EMPLOYED A GOOD FOREIGN COACH FOR THEIR NATIONAL TEAM.
EMPLOYING A STANDARD FOREIGN COACH BEFORE NEXT WORLD CUP QUALIFIER QUALIFIERS IN MARCH WOULD HAVE BE A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR NEW COACH TO QUICKLY KNOW EACH PLAYERS & HAVE CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH PLAYERS BEFORE THE IMPORTANT WORLD CUP QUALIFY MATCHES.
BRINGING EQUAVOEN BACK AGAIN AT THIS TIME NOW (which everybody have known as UNIMPRESSIVE TACTICAL COACH) WILL BE A THING OF DISASTER FOR COUNTRY, PLAYERS & EQUAVOEN HIMSELF. THOUGH I LOVE HIM FOR HIS PATRIOTIC. BUT WHAT PRESENT TACTICS/MODERN KNOWLEDGE OF FOOTBALL DOES HE KNOW. WHAT REFRESHER COURSES HAS HE ACQUIRED TO UPDATE HIMSELF TO MANAGE SUPER EAGLE.
OUR ORGANIZATION, STRUCTURE ARE VERY POOR & BAD.
COMMON EQUATORIAL GUINEA, COMOROS, BOTSWANA, GAMBIA, THEY PUT THINGS IN STRUCTURE AND ORDERLY.
AS A NIGERIA, COMMON AFCON NATION CUP WE CANNOT SINGLEHANDEDLY HOST IT MORE THAN ONE TIMES. NOW TO EMPLOY A TOP CLASS COACH LIKE HERVE RENARD( whose Morocco, Ghana, Ivory coast, Zambia have engaged in the past before) IS A PROBLEM TO A COUNTRY SO-CALLED GIANT OF AFRICA. WE COMPLAINED THAT THERE IS NO MONEY TO FINANCE HIS WAGES. WHAT A BIG SHAME!!!!!!!!!.
LIKEWISE ALSO, WE WENT TO PARIS OLYMPIC WITHOUT ADEQUATE PLANNING ALONG WITH UNNECESSARY DELEGATE TO WASTE MONEY. JUST TO HEAR A BAD NEWS THAT ONE OF OUR CYCLIST WENT AHEAD TO BORROW CYCLIST BIYCICLE FROM THEIR FELLOW GERMAN REPRESENTATIVE.
        WHAT A MESS !!!!!!!!!.
Infact, it is high time for President Tinubu to ban Nigeria all the sporting federations in order to avoid subsequent local and international embarrassment.

Thank you Kel and TALK UR OWN. We are getting a new foreign coach this month according to feelers. I know there are some no good people who are happy with the current situation of the SuperEagles.

If not for the free 3 points we got from CAF Equafailure almost bungled the AFCON qaulifiers. He only won 40% of his matches in the qualifiers. LMAO!

I don’t know what college or university some people went to. If you score 40% in an exam you have failed woefully. Lmao!

We will get a foreign coach and the SuperEagles will be in USA Canada and Mexico.

Waiting this late is derailing the team chances of qualifying, these people are not helping matter, a coach should be in place already, he should be working around the clock now, you can’t be announcing a coach February ending and then be expecting miracles, common guys do your jobs.

Rubbish, we are not interested in any foreign coach, what has the impact of those that came after Westerhof and bonfere joe being. Abeg, leave our local coaches to execute this games. The players just need to up their game and stop this lackadaisical approach to matches.

Lmao! Peseiro still took us to the final of the AFCON for the first time since 2013. Rohr was qualifying for tournaments with games to spare after failing to qualify for back to back AFCONS with local Guadiolas.

Yes we have seen the impacts of foreign coaches in recent year.

We will appoint a new foreign coach and we will qualify for the WorldCup. Anybody wey get Issue with that can make use of the nearest lagoon.

**FOREIGN COACH IS THE ANSWER ***
NFF SHOULD EMPLOY A GOOD STANDARD FOREIGN COACH THAT KNOWS ABOUT AFRICAN FOOTBALL & PLAYERS THAT IS HIGHLY TECHNICAL & BE RESPECTED BY PLAYERS.
THE REASON WHY SOME EX-PLAYERS AND SOME PRESENT SUPER EAGLE PLAYERS ARE IN SUPPORT OF INDIGENOUS COACH(especially Equaveon) IS BECAUSE THAT, IT WILL BE VERY EASY FOR THEM TO PENETRATE IN HIM, CONTROLLING HIM & DICTATING TO HIM WHEN IT COMES TO PLAYERS SELECTION, WHICH IT CANNOT BE POSSIBLE ON FOREIGN COACH. ALSO, IT WILL BE VERY EASY TO DO BUSINESS BY INTRODUCING PLAYERS TO INDIGENOUS COACH AFTER COLLECTING BRIBE FROM SUCH BE PLAYERS.
** NOTE: We should not be deceiving ourselves in this country because of the way things work for other countries (e.g. Democracy work well in America, S/Africa, Ghana but it doesn’t work well in Nigeria).
THE WAY THINGS WORK FOR COACH H. SHEHATA(EGYPT), COACH ALIOU CISSE(SENEGAL), COACH EMERSE FAE(IVORY COAST) BY WINNING AFCON FOR THEIR COUNTY (and also qualified for next AFCON easily) MAY NOT WORK IN NIGERIA DUE TO CORRUPTION, IMPROPER PLANNING, LACK OF STRUCTURES, BAD MANAGEMENT.
IN NIGERIA, WE ARE TOO RELIGIONISTIC, REGIONISTIC, TRIBALISTIC & SENTIMENTAL.
EVEN when Keshi won AFCON in 2013, he failed woefully to qualified for next AFCON due to bad management(Pinnick VS Giwa), sentiment, jealous, hatred towards some players (e.g. Yobo, I.K. uche, V.moses).
**** NFF SHOULD GO FOR THE BEST COACH.***
What matters most is to move our football forward & not celebrating FLUKE WINNING again. We struggle/manage to beat CIV by penalty in AFCON group stage. But E/guinea beat CIV 4-0 convincingly.
*** KESHI WON AFCON IN 2013, BUT WE CANNOT BOAST OF PLAYERS, THE TEAM FOR THE FUTURE (for instance: Sunday MBA, Uzoenyi, Oshaniwa, Agbim are nowhere to be found in future football). AND NIGERIA FAILED TO QUALIFIED FOR NEXT TWO CONSECUTIVE AFCON.
      WHAT A SHAME!!!!
**** WESTERHOF WIN AFCON IN 1994, BUT NIGERIA CAN BOAST OF FUTURE FOOTBALL (for instance: Oliseh, Okocha, Amokachi, Amuneke shine for future football).
      WHAT A BRIGHTER FUTURE!!!!!
      ### NFF SHOULD EMPLOY A GOOD DISCIPLINE, TACTICAL, HIGHLY RESPECTED COACH ###

foreign coach is a sure berth whether some people like it or not is their problem i dont understand how some people reason with this precarious situation we are and coupled that Equaveon has been tried and tested he couldnt meet the requirement and with the recent afcon qualifier he was not able to prove he is the right man to pilot the affairs of the national team and he is below 40% performance rate he has nothing to prove again that he is capable as well he is the rightperson for this job he should be retired for the fact he lacks luck and grace no proven record of his coaching prowess in terms of result and performance noooooooooooo Equaveon should quietly resign his position as the technical adviser that iss where the problem is so that he can understandthat his service is no longer needed
