I think peseiro is trying to keep a solid bench in this match. Then the first sub will be Simon and Yusuf coming on to be a driving force in the second half

It is a bit risky to say the least to be playing both Iwobi and his twin in lack of opposition resistance aka tracking back and tackling – Chukwueze and it seems to me almost as if Peseiro is underestimating Cote D’Ivoire but to God be all the glory – and may we be celebrating becomimg the AFCON champions in a few hours.
Peserio will have to evolve as we go along and really refrain from having “favourites” or having players who’s places are guaranteed in the team regardless of the circumstance..

So having said that – Up the SE’s!, Up Nigeria! Let’s bring that cup home!

      Oya let’s goo!

My issue is this Sanusi. I don’t know why the Coach is so obsessed with the guy. This Zaidu has been poor offensively. Wing backs are meant to be creative and support the defence. But he’s literally doing nothing with the ball. He either make an opponents pass or loose possession even when he’s not under pressure. Plus he’s just returning from an injury. We all see when Bassey moved to that left wing back the kind of beautiful cross he gave Lookman. Likewise Aina. Aina had put in close to 3 or 4 beautiful crosses into the box for Osimhen when convered to left wing. Osimhen was just unlucky not to have convert any of the chances. Had he score all the assist from Aina both from when he played from right & left wing back, Aina would have comfortably has up to 4 or 5 assist in this tournament. I’m not even exaggerating. If you doubt me, try to see full highlights of the SE

Osayi himself is a worthy player who fit in perfectly at the right wing back. Very productive upfront just like Aina and very good while defending.

So the question is why Zaidu ? This guy is not Marcelo or Alphonso Davies for God sake so why the obsession. I really can’t understand tbh. Well i will say goodluck to SE and we fans.

The coach is playing 5 man defense when defending and he would rather have a perfect defense than a shaky one. Zaidu is far better than Osayi in terms of defending. So, it is instructive to play a better defender in a 5 man defense.
Zaidu is obviously not as good as Osayi when attacking. But in an attack consisting of Oshimen, Lookmon, and Chukwueze (if he decides to play for the team), you can’t blame the coach for preferring Zaidu to Osayi.

      Where is the midfield?
      Where is Iwobi?
Since he’s the playmaker, he should be the one making transition play.

@Larry, we need one more keg in the middle l, but that would affect our formation, remove Zaidu   bring in Yusuf go back to 433

No playmaker, midfield completely collapsed putting pressure on the defence.

Iwobi has tried in this match, at least in this first half. So, we can be blaming him at this time of the game. We have only created 2 chances so no blame to Iwobi at all. The person that should do more is Chukwueze.
As for officiating, it has been ok so far. Take tension away and watch the match with an open mind. Officiating has been ok so far.

1-nil up so all going according to plan but I still have bones to pick with Peseiro se…ani why the obsession with always playing Iwobi who we all know is short 1 in the midfield against us and now you go and add Chukwueze who is playing true to form so another short 1 which means we’re playing short two so far and then to add insult to injury Zaidu is also not good enough I’m afraid which equals a grand total of short 3!? Because by my maths 1+1+1=3 Abi I lie??

How can you be prosecuting a major championship finals with a self imposed short 3!?

God help us o – I just thank God that we are already in front by a goal but Pasiero needs to be real careful!! Ah ah wetin?

I wonder why they brought that female Moroccan ref again as lineswoman. She was poor whistling the Nigeria vs Guinea Bissau game.

Asides the flicked on header to Eking to score, Chukwueze has not been in this game. Dimon will offer more both offensively and defensively.

Iwibi needs to be careful with stray passes in the midfield. The defense is weathering so much pressure. 62% to 38%. That’s worrying.

Ivory Coast is the new African Champion and sorry to say, deservedly so because the better team won.
We had a white coach that got outsmarted by an African coach. After starting the tournament with his usual 4-4-2, he reverted to 4-5-1 formation which made us to compact as against our usual progressive game but took us this far, when this formation was not functioning he lacked ideas again.

Our overconfidence did not allow us to have a plan B. We rode our luck with plan A until it backed fired today.
This final needed our 4-3-3 for it will allow us push up but instead we maintain our defensive shape even before we scored. At one point in the match, Osimhen was tell the others to push. You know why he struggle in this tournament because of the coach, most at times he was isolated and all of us will be saying that he is disturbing defenders when his work was suppose to be scoring goals. This coach and Aina cost Us this match, with the players Nigeria have we should be playing like Spain and not Italy. This was the easiest AFCON to win but we blew it.

I don’t want to talk about Aina because I always doubt him and Zaidu, but he cause us a goal. Aina should be blame for that second goal. I play as a defender and the simple basic of defending is first mark from your post side first and not player’s leg. That was schoolboy defending and the thing pained me more than even the goal they scored. No need to cry over spilled milk Ivory Coast deserve their win, they wanted it more and attack for it while we where defending…imagine.

Aina is a fantastic player, but he should have made it known to the coach that he was not in the game.

Zaidu is not a national team player. Bruno is better than him.

Using a player Like Chukwueze was also a mistake by the coach. You literally had 2 player – Iwobi and Chukwueze who did nothing in the midfield for Nigeria. So how can Osimhen function in this type of set up?

If they had not scored a second goal… even if we play for three hours we won’t score because Peseiro just got away with the semi finals against SA and came to the final with the same kind of negative play. When we were leading he ought to have changed to three man midfield in the second half… the players told him to change tactics that they really suffered against SA but still he stuck to his usual 90minutes defensive play… how can you be playing final match against host team with 33% ball possession? With the pressure it was only a matter of time before they scored. We were outplayed for adopting negative football. Iwobi has a very poor tournament…we should find better midfielders. The

Well deserved victory for the Ivorians. The Coach has himself to blame for fielding Zaidu and Chukwueze Iwobi himself has been poor. We all can see the bite Ihaenacho add when he came in. Also Simon should stop taking set pieces be it free kick or corner. He’s poor in that aspect.

In all good effort from the guys nobody predict they will reach the final myself inclusive.

Moving forward, we need some players to be drafted into the team. At the central defence, Igho Ogbu, Frederick Benjamin, Tosin Adarabioyo & Gabriel Osho if he is willing to play for Eagles. Reason why i suggested these defenders is simply because we don’t have a ball playing central defender. No disrespect to the 3 man Central defence but their passes from the back have been wayward. Other than that, they’ve been fantastic.

At the midfield, the young guy Dele-Bashiru should be integrated into the team and we should look for more creative midfielders who are willing to play for Nigeria. Iwobi is not good enough and that’s the simple truth. We’ve defensive midfielders but no playmaker. That’s why we keep struggling. Also from the wings, Tella should be drafted in to compete for a shirt as well as any other performing winger We’ve in europe be it foreign born or Nigerian born.

Lastly, Musa needs to finally retire. Zaidu need a break from the National Team in other to rediscover the form that put him in the NT. Iwobi need to sit on the bench as long as possible bcos he’s not ready to be the SE playmaker

How can you be playing Ivory and be this defensive when is not  as if you are playing Spain or Argentina . Osimhen was even shouting at the players to come out to attack but they kept drawing back.

This is one funny thing about Nigeria fans, you will be hailing the team but when they loose, you guys will be acting like is not the same you that has been hailing and singing their names.

@UBFE First thing I will say is not all lost is a bad lost, it may be very painful, but it could be a wake-up call just like it happened with the goal keeping department and just bcos on that singular change we are able to get to the final.

And that is where serious scouting comes in for good midfielders,it is good we have midfielders that can run with ball, not just midfielders that can run with ball like the ones we have presently, we also need midfielders that can hold ball and use it effectively.

Our challenge in that match was glaring and peseiro has seen it himself and he needs to go back and watch the match and analyse the game and look for how to improve the team base in what. And what and he most have seen that he needs tactical flexibility and that can be achieved when you have options in both midfield and attack. And I’ve already mentioned that he will need to scout for midfielders in any standard league at all and he needs to know what he’s looking for in them. One thing is that some players have hidden talents and desperately in need of opportunity to showcase it.

So, this is not a time to sack coach, after all the coach didn’t do badly, but time to rebuild and rebuild until we get the desired team, which also depend on if he qualifies for the world cup. Between now and then we want to see some work in place base on what I just said.

Though I know Siasia will be a good option but peisero is good enough for now.

The coach tried with his 5-4-1 or 3-4-4 formation which ever way you look at it. But that kind of packing the bus strategy can only take you so far. Reason why Mourinho has problems everywhere he goes to coach. You can depend on packing the bus strategy all the time. It is always successful 25% to 45 % of the time. The statistics are there. You only need to look at the reason why the apostle of this strategy, Jose Mourinho has ended up being fire almost everywhere he goes.

I said it that if we keep playing the Jose Mourinho type of football. we will get the result of Jose Mourinho. This is what has happened.

In all the boys tried. At least for once they fought for this cup. Better luck to them next time.

That being said, players like Iwobi, Chukwueze and to some extent Simon and Zaidu needs to either be on the bench in the super eagles or vacate the team entirely. Iwobi especially, needs to be removed from the team. He is just lazy and never ready to support the team in terms of marking opponent.

Lastly, I think Nigeria should go back to 4-3-3 formation and perfect it with the right set of players just like Pesiero did with his 5-4-1 formation. If NIgeria had come out to play today, someone like Adingra would not have given Aina that much problem. Nigerian attacking threat would have forced him to help out in defense thus, relieving Aina of pressure in the match

Iwobi is not good enough for our midfield unfortunately, there are also a couple others who should be removed and replaced by mush better players who we already have waiting in the wings not to mention other much better options who we have not even brought in at all yet.

The other players carried Iwobi and Zaidu throughout but the stakes were just too high in this final because the Ivorians came to play and were very serious indeed!

All in all they deserved to win today so more power to Cote D’Ivoire!

I blame Peseiro for his choice of players and not seeing how Iwobi especially weakened this team, and if he did then the question is why did he continue playing him??

If Pesiero wants to stay he can stay as the super eagles coach. But he should not be allowed to continue with his 5-4-1 or 3-4-3 formation. That approach is very counter productive and does not give you result all the time.

We are super eagles and we should be playing like Spain not anti football like Italy. This coach came into this match without plan B

I don’t have any complain bcos you’ve already exceeded my expectations. I said “if the team can go beyond quarter final that will be a miracle”. And they did go beyond the QF.

I’m waiting for omo9ja to tell us how we will fire the coach and hire combination of mutiu adepoju, garba lawal, yobo, babayaro as the coach crewthat will bring desired result.

This is very disappointing for @omo9ja bcos he was already boasting and telling us how Peseiro is showing Rohr is a bad coach, pitty.

Congratulations the Elephants. A well deserved victory no doubt. For the Eagles, we shall learn from this. Good luck.

Final thoughts. Adingra is a winger. Adingra was not trying to score but provide opportunities for strikers to try and score. Maybe our wingers can borrow from Adingra and do same for our strikers.

Thanks everyone for all the comments. If only our politicians were like our players doing their best with all the limitations facing them. Nigeria would be better. Also if our politicians were like all of us here, doing their best to uplift the team for the best, then Nigeria will be a lot better. We all just want our country to be better and do better. It is not too much to expect and ask.

To God be the glory. God gave the Super Eagles a rare opportunity, but the coach and our players missed the game.

This is the worst display of the Super Eagles at the Afcon final I have ever seen since I have been watching the Super Eagles.

The coach should be blamed for this. There’s a lot of distractions after the South Africa match. I trust Keshi for that.

The coach also knew that Ola Aina wasn’t in the game but did not take him out.

I said a lot about Zaidu, and he did not disappoint me.

The coach should be blamed for this match. No creativity in this team and the team were exposed today. Our midfield were nowhere to be found.

I am so happy that Eagles did not wear the white, so no excuses.

Congratulations to Oga Rohr followers. Their wishes count in the end. I hope you all are happy now.

The Ivory Coast wanted the trophy most, and they went for it.

Super Eagles should have themselves to be blamed.

This is the first time that the lost at the Afcon final did bother me that much because our players did not play anything for the entire 90 minutes.

The coach tried his best compared to Oga Rohr, who spent six with our boys.

Should the coach stay or leave? Yes, he should leave. Not because he lost at the final, but his pattern of play did not work for our players.

If a local coach can win Afcon for Ivory Coast, then our own should take over this team.

As I said before this tournament, I did not believe in Oga Paseiro’s capability, but we were fortunate to make it so far in this tournament.

I also said I would Oga Paseiro’s fan if he won against Ivory Coast, but he did not.

Long story short, our boys should win a tournament before celebrating, but in their own case, they celebrated first before the final, and they were down now.

God gave us the opportunity to win today’s match, but our players and the coach our nation and the entire fans of the Super Eagles down.

Musa, Zaidu, and Uzoho should not return to the national team.

I still believe in our “own” because they can do much better than Oga Paseiro and Oga Rohr. Once again, blame nobody but the coach and his troops, Eagles did not play anything meaningful game today.

      After watching the first
half of the match, I was shaking my head for our players and the coach. Eagles would have letting South Africa play against the host country. Hmmm. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

The other you were here singing the praise of PESEIRO, today you’re blaming him.

Your home based coach that got us booted out of the competition last edition couldn’t even do two-third of what this innocent man did.

Now you’re singing the praise of Fae the ivorian coach, if our ex international is called upon, can he deliver the way this young man did?

Don’t be a Fair weather fan, try to support the team even when they’re down.

The injury that hit NIGERIA is enough to have got us knocked out in the knock out the, but PESEIRO used the resources at his disposal to grinder out results for us.

Imagine if NDIDI, BONIFACE, SODIQ were all fit and present, don’t you think the coach would have a enough options in that midfield?

        Criticize constructively please.

WOw, where should i begin, not surprised one bit. The hungrier team won this match. When i was shouting that this team was playing to defensive, was told i don’t know football. When i said the coach’s tactics will come back to bite him, i was told i don’t know football. When we said some selected player’s don’t deserve to be in the team , we were called all kinds of name. Now some have mute themselves, they can’t come out and defend this shambolic display. First the coach needs to leave. The determination of the players got us this far not the stupid tactics some forumites were believing won us this game. At this stage some players just need to vacate this team. This is not the super Eagles many of us grew up watching. After conceding thats when we now came out to attack. Imagine the few chances we had in that short span in the First half. If peserio had watched the DR congo match with the ivorians, DRC came out to attack, had begging chances which i believe if the Eagles had would have buried. It was share luck and Strong will of the players that got us here. We didn’t play anything fantastic

Just Let a local coach take over this team
