Former Kwara United coach Samson Unuanel has congratulated Rangers for winning this season’s Nigeria Premier Football League title at he weekend.
Two first-half goals by captain Chidiebere Nwobodo sent the packed arena into rapturous celebration as Rangers won the high-stakes encounter 2-1 against Ikorodu City, to secure their second league title in three seasons and a record-equaling ninth NPFL crown.
Rangers Crowned NPFL Champions
Rangers ended the campaign with 68 points, one ahead of Rivers United, who defeated Katsina United 3-0 in Port Harcourt but had to settle for second place.
Speaking with Completesports.com, Unuanel stated that Rangers worked so hard to earn the league title.
“I want to congratulates Rangers for lifting the NPFL title. It’s a well deserved victory for Rangers having worked so hard to achieve it.

“Beating Ikorodu City at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, shows the determination in the players, and I am delighted they have finally realized their goal.”
Represent Nigeria In CAF Champions League
Despite falling short in their bid to reclaim the title, Rivers United, coached by Finidi George, will join Rangers as Nigeria’s representatives in next season’s CAF Champions League.
The victory in Lagos confirmed Rangers as NPFL champions for the ninth time in the club’s history, further cementing the Flying Antelopes’ status as one of the most successful and enduring institutions in Nigerian football.

Rangers have now won league titles in 1974, 1975, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1984, 2016, 2024 and now 2026. They also made history in 1977 by becoming the first Nigerian club to win the African Cup Winners’ Cup.
Founded in 1970, shortly after the Nigerian Civil War, Rangers became a symbol of resilience and unity across the South-east, earning the famous “Never-Say-Die” identity that still defines the club decades later.
The Flying Antelopes remain the only club never to have suffered relegation from Nigeria’s top division.
