Head coach of the home-based Super Eagles, Salisu Yusuf, says the 2023 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) final qualification tie against the Black Galaxies of Ghana is not about revenge.
The home-based Eagles will be guests to Ghana in the first leg billed for August 28 in Accra, with the reverse fixture scheduled for the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on September 3.
Recall the Super Eagles were stopped from qualifying for this year’s World Cup in Qatar by the Black Stars.
After holding the four-time AFCON champions to a goalless draw away, the Eagles could only manage a 1-1 draw in Abuja to miss this year’s tournament.
Yusuf was part of the Eagle coaching crew headed by Austine Eguavoen.

And speaking ahead of the CHAN qualifiers, Yusuf said the home-based Eagles are only concentrated on beating Ghana and pick the ticket for next year’s tournament.
“For me it’s not about revenge it’s about qualification,” he said on Brila FM.
“So the most important thing is for us to qualify and to qualify we have to beat Ghana and it’s our wish and prayer that will happen.”
The Black Galaxies progressed into the play-off round after overcoming Benin Republic.

For Me we should not put too much hope on this CHAN team because at present Ghana League is stronger than Nigeria League. The talk of revenge should be Super Eagles vs Black Stars not CHAN Eagles vs Ghana B Team or Super Eagles B team vs Ghana B team. Nigeria always trying to use mouth to do everything. The Last I remember Ghana’s Strongest team beat Nigeria’s Strongest team to World Cup ticket not the B teams. Get NPFL in order we are not the Gods of football. The sooner we realise that the better we are not Brazil or Germany. our League is porous and Ghana League is better Period!. Nigeria setting ourselves up for faliure with our mouth again!. abi>

Nigerians, We are too arrogant for some reason we feel that we are the Gods of football in Africa which is far from the truth and Ghana as I feared has shown us again. I mean a league that is not functioning can not do anything competitvely. With this sambisa head as coach the match is already decided, home based eagles is not going anywhere, our league lacks quality players, this pay and play coach inject more academy players into the team.
You talking down on Yusuf?Did you make research of his achievements as a coach or were you making assessments based on the bribery charges labelled against him?
Most Nigerians does what Yusuf did,not that I’m in support of corruption,he was just unfortunate to be set up and got caught making him a scapegoat but we know most local coaches are corrupt.
That by the way,Yusuf is a very good coach and I won’t be surprised despite the late preparations he’s able to get his wards to pace and get the better of his opponent.
