Amad Diallo netted the only goal of the game as reigning champions, Ivory Coast pipped Mozambique 1-0 in Wednesday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The defending champions’ first big chance came in the 26th minute, as Guela Doue delivered a cross into the area, but Yan Diomande blazed over.
the Ivorians battled to break down their opponents in a competitive first half but took firm control after the break without converting the many chances they created.

Diallo side-footed the ball into the net in the 49th minute to ensure the three-point haul in rainy conditions but the scoreline would have been a lot more emphatic had the Ivorians been sharper in front of goal.
Both sides play the second of their three group stage games on Sunday, when Mozambique meet Gabon in Agadir and Ivory Coast meet five-time champions Cameroon in Marrakech.
