Algerian goalkeeper Luca Zidane has disclosed that his grandfather convinced him to represent his fatherland at the international level.
Despite being eligible to play for France, the World Cup-winning nation of his legendary father, Zinedine Zidane’s son chose to represent Algeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking with Cafonline after making his first debut at the tournament against Sudan, Zidane stated that his grandfather encouraged him to play for Algeria.

“My grandfather encouraged me to play for Algeria. He wanted me to be proud of my origins, and I wanted to honour him,” Zidane explained in an interview with CAFOnline.
“My father told me to make my choice and to do it with conviction. It’s really nice that he came with my brother.
“I’ve always had my family’s support, and seeing them here at AFCON gives me even more strength to defend Algeria’s colours.”
