Benin Republic forward Steve Mounie is disapointed to see the side go down to a 1-0 defeat against Nigeria in Saturday’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture, reports Completesports.com.
The Squirrels conceded late in the game with substitute Paul Onuachu nodding home from close range following a goalmouth scramble.
The defeat put an end to the Squirrels’ eiight-year unbeaten home streak.

Michel Dussuyer’s side need a point from Tuesday’s away clash against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone to secure a place in Cameroon 2021.
“To concede right at the death it’s disappointing. We fought hard in the game and thought we did enough to get at least a draw,”Mounie said after the game.
“Things like this happen in football and we have to put it behind us.
“The game against Sierra Leone is what we should be thinking about now. Hopefully we can get a good result and get the qualification ticket.”

Mounie tried so hard. He played his heart out yesterday. Even though the Squirrels lost, I’m sure no Benin fan will have a word of complaint against this guy.
