Best Point Guards In 2021

We’ve seen how a high-scoring point guard like Stephen Curry can be the best player on a championship team, and how a genius playmaker like Magic Johnson is widely regarded as one of the best players in NBA history.

Only a few players are considered perennial All-Stars, if not superstars, at the point guard position. We ranked the finest playmakers and ball handlers in the NBA, with a few honourable mentions, to discover which point guards are genuinely the best in the league at tipping the basketball odds.

Here is the lowdown of the most significant point guards in the NBA. We are starting with the graceful Kyle Lowry.

Kyle Lowry

Best Point Guards in 2021

Kyle Lowry was the NBA Champion’s Toronto Raptors’ point guard in 2018. He finally found a team to thrive in with the Raptors after jumping around the league for so long. Lowry has improved as a player every year, adding a very effective deep-range jumper to a game built on hustle, resilience and good playmaking.

In reality, Lowry’s leadership was a critical factor in the Raptors’ victory over the Warriors in the NBA finals two years ago. There’s little doubt Kyle Lowry is a championship-calibre point guard and one of the best leaders in the NBA.

Lowry is a good playmaker and a fantastic shooter from beyond the arc, and he is easily one of the league’s top-10 point guards. Lowry’s future in Toronto is unclear following the departures of Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol, so he’ll be hoping to lead the Raptors to the Eastern Conference finals this season.

Jamal Murray

Jamal Murray’s numbers appear to be respectable on paper, but his effect on the Denver Nuggets is much more significant. Murray put on his best performances during last season’s playoffs when he scored a tonne of points.

In the Western Conference finals, where the Nuggets faced the mighty Lakers, Jamal Murray was arguably the best player for the Nuggets. Murray should have more help now that Michael Porter Jr. is coming into his own and Nikola Jokic is owning it, just like he’s the best big man in the league.

Murray, who turns 24, will almost certainly see a significant increase in his scoring and assist totals. Murray’s development as a man and a player will be fascinating to watch, and he will continue to improve.

Russell Westbrook

Best Point Guards In 2021

Since Oscar Robertson, Russell Westbrook has been the most fantastic stat sheet stuffer at the point guard spot. His ability to get triple-doubles is exceptional, and he has averaged a triple-double in each of the last three seasons.

His stats, combined with his MVP-caliber stat-sheet stuffing, comfortably place him in the top five-point guards. Last year, Westbrook’s reputation suffered greatly due to his lousy post-season play, but he was also coming off an untimely injury and a positive Covid-19 test.

Westbrook is a strong candidate for the MVP Award with an athleticism that is unrivalled, and he and Bradley Beal will form a formidable duo this season.

We could not write this article without mentioning the great Luka Doncic.

Luka Doncic

Best Point Guards in 2021

Luka Doncic is currently one of the best players in the NBA, and he will serve as the Dallas Mavericks’ primary point guard this season. He can play four positions despite his outstanding playmaking abilities, which could push him to be the primary playmaker.

The fact that Doncic is already a top-three point guard is impressive, and he will show that he is serious about snatching the title. Luka can do it all on the court this season, and he’s a good candidate for MVP.

Doncic has the potential to be a top-3 shooting guard and even a top-3 small forward if he so desires, but he will join and finish the 2021 season as the world’s third-best point guard.

Damian Lillard

Damian Lillard is a big-time player who can shoot the ball from all over the court. Lillard has yet to win an NBA championship or even appear in the finals, but we are sure he will be a powerhouse once more in 2021.

Last season, Lillard was incredible in guiding the Portland Trail Blazers to an unexpected playoff berth. Lillard has to be a top-two point guard in the NBA regarding pure scoring abilities and effect on the court.

Lillard had a chance to establish himself as the best point guard in the NBA, but his lack of post-season success outside of a Western Conference finals appearance two years ago prevented him from doing so.

Lillard no longer has any excuses, as he now has a solid squad thanks to the addition of Robert Covington and the re-signing of Carmelo Anthony. Lillard will be an MVP contender this season, but one man will beat him out for the title of point guard champ in the NBA – that man is Stephen Curry.

Stephen Curry

Undoubtedly Curry owns the game. Curry is the most recent all-time great point guard in basketball history. Stephen Curry is unstoppable in today’s game because of his incredible dribbling ability and lightning-quick release.

He’s also the greatest shooter we’ve ever seen, and he’s primarily responsible for the way the game is now played. The great man is a two-time MVP and three-time NBA Champion who is widely considered the greatest point guard of all time.

Even though Curry will be 33 years old this season, Curry can affect a game like no other point guard. Considering Klay Thompson’s absence; he will be one of the front-runners for the MVP Award.
