Serena hasn’t played at the US Open since 2022, and it’ll be an emotional homecoming for the 23-time singles Grand Slam champion.
She returned to competitive sport earlier this year after being away from professional tennis for nearly four years.
Serena recently played the doubles event at the Cincinnati Open alongside Venus Williams but was defeated in the opening round by Marta Kostyuk and Peyton Stearns.
The Williams sisters had not played doubles together since the 2022 US Open before their Cincinnati comeback.

It remains unclear whether Serena will also compete in the women’s singles draw. The USTA still has one women’s singles wild card available, although Williams has not confirmed whether she intends to use it.
The 2026 mixed doubles event will feature a revamped format designed to bring some of tennis’ biggest stars into the competition. Matches will be played in a best-of-three format with sets decided at four games, no-ad scoring, and a 10-point match tiebreak if required.
