Former Wolfsburg Chief Regrets Selling Osimhen

Former Wolfsburg sporting director, Jorg Schmadtke has admitted he made a big mistake selling Victor Osimhen during his time at the club.

Schmadtke, who is set to take over at Liverpool as their new sporting director took the decision to sell the Nigeria international to Belgian club, Sporting Charleroi in 2018.

Osimhen failed to score a single goal in 16 outings for Wolfsburg before he was shipped out on loan to Belgium.

There, Osimhen flourished with 20 goals in all competitions during the 2018/19 campaign.

A permanent move was then quickly on the cards as Charleroi activated their £3m option to sign him. Osimhen would be on the move once more just weeks later as Lille swooped with a £19m deal.

A move to Napoli followed a year where Osimhen blossomed to one of the strikers in the world.

Reflecting on the decision, Schmadtke stated it was a mistake which he now regret.

“It wasn’t a good move, in hindsight. When I came, he [Osimhen] was limping and running in circles,”he told Kicker.

“I was told that the strikers we had weren’t good enough. The most important lesson is that you have to be patient with some transfers.”

No be small regret. Arguably the biggest football management blunder of the last decade.
The only other blunder that beats this one is the sacking of Gernot Rohr by the previous NFF. The calamity award for blunders goes to them.

I was thinking you were going to mention the blunder of Chelsea sacking Tuchel out of the blue, the manager who won them Champions League and now they are sitting on number 12, far away from Europa League.
That’s the blunder of the decade.

It irritates me when people say Osimhen played 16 games for Wolfsburg without scoring a goal. I watched all these games and he barely played 5 minutes in most of these games. If I remember correctly, he only started 2 or 3 games. Most of the time he was only brought in with 10 – 5 minutes left to play, sometimes, in time added on. They even played him as a winger when he started so as to create room for Mario Gomez as the main striker.

  • You will continue to regret wicked white skin smelling fools

  • Same, those dime chicken so called Dutch legend will come back to regret after selling Calvin Bassey.
I have watched Ajax severally and can confidently say Bassey is miles better than all the defenders Ajax can manage to present. Whatever is happening there is either a gang up against Bassey by fellow players, either born out of jealousy of what he earns or maybe Ajax kind of football is not suited for him. BUT THAT DEFINITELY DON’T TAKE ANYTHING AWAY FROM THE FACT THAT BASSEY IS SOME REALLY GOOD QUALITY DEFENDER EVEN DESPITE HIS YOUNG AGE.
