Inter Miami star Rodrigo de Paul says Lionel Messi played a key role in convincing him to join the club.
Having arrived on loan until the end of the year, with the option of a four-year contract as Designated Player, De Paul in a chat with the club’s website, revealed that Messi’s key role in the deal.
“Leo and I always dreamed of playing together at a club, not just with the Albiceleste. Every call-up was special, but too brief. Now that dream has come true.”
“He called me, he took care of every detail. The day after I arrived, he was ready to welcome me.”

De Paul made his debut in the Leagues Cup victory over Atlas and already has a clear goal: “Here we play to win. This club will grow, but we need trophies.”
De Paul played for Atletico Madrid since 2021 after joining the Spanish club from Udinese, where he played since 2016. De Paul has played in 356 career matches with 45 goals and 56 assists.
The move to Inter Miami gives De Paul and Messi a way to continue building their chemistry as they prepare for next summer’s World Cup.
