Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu has disclosed that most teams in Africa are avoiding playing Nigeria in international friendlies.
Recall that the Super Falcons will be hoping to defend their title at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco in July, but the team is struggling to get competitive friendly games before the tournament.
The Super Falcons remain Africa’s most successful women’s national team, a reputation that Justine Madugu has bolstered by leading them to a record-extending 10th WAFCON title in 2024 and maintaining their spot as Africa’s top-ranked team, recently climbing to 36th in the April 2026 FIFA World Rankings.
In a chat with Brila FM, Madugu believes the NFF have approached more than five countries to play the team in a friendly, but they all declined.

“The fact is that most of the teams are not ready to play us. I am aware they have made a lot of efforts at trying to reach out to so many teams.”
“The federation will accept by the time they approach their coaches, they will say no, they don’t want to play the Super Falcons.”
“I’m aware they have made approaches to more than five countries.”
“That I know.”
“Maybe some other reasons could be behind it, but we’re not happy about it.”
