Super Falcons and Paris FC goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie made the final shortlist for the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.
Nnadozie is one of five players who made the final shortlist which was announced on CAF’s X handle on Wednesday.
Atletico Madrid forward Rasheedat Ajibade, did not make the final cut.
Nandozie will be up against Zambia’s Barbara Banda and sisters Temwa and Tabitha Chawinga from Malawi and also Sanaa Mssoudy from Morocco.
Also, Nnadozie made the final five shortlist in the Goalkeeper of the Year category.
She is up against South Africa’s Andile Dlamini of Mamelodi Sundowns and South Africa, Khadija Er-rmichi of ASFAR and Morocco, FC Masar and Egypt’s Habiba Sabry and Fideline Ngoy of TP Mazambe and DR Congo.
The Super Falcons first choice won the award at the 2023 CAF Awards.
In the National Team of the Year category for women, Nigeria made the cut alongside Cameroon, Morocco, Zambia and South Africa.
Edo Queens, who finished fourth at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, will battle TP Mazembe, FC Masar, ASFAR and Mamelodi Sundowns for the award.
Falconets striker Chiamaka Okwuchukwu is in the final five shortlist for the Young Player of the Year award, while Christopher Danjuma is in contention for Coach of the Year award.

South Africa will be utterly disappointed not to have their Kgatlana or Seoposenwe in the running for AWPOTY again. I remember the look of shock and disappointment on the faces of Ellis and Kgatlana at the ceremony (on TV) when Oshoala was announced the winner (they coldn’t even hide their disgust or at least smile for the camera and act politically correct in public as per the norm).
In fact their immediate former captain, Janine Van Wyk openly and unsportsmanly declared in an interview that Oshoala didn’t deserve the award (clearly echoing the unspoken expressions of Ellis and Kgatlana).
While Zambia’s very man-like Banda is the clear favorite for the crown, Nnadozie will be 2nd placed and obviously retain her CAF best goalkeeper award.
Banda at this time,is the best female footballer in the world,can’t think of a better player..

I quite agree, @Greenturf. She was practically a one-man army for Zambia at the Olympics, and she and Koundaji. Zambia is going to be a firm favorite for next year’s AWCON, alongside Nigeria and South Africa. Cameroun, Morocco, Ghana, Egypt, and Malawi are going to be dark horses.
Surprisingly, not sure Banda was listed in the Ballon Dor or FIFA Best final shortlist. I rate her in the top 5 in the world.
I will be flabbergasted she didn’t make the list.Banda practically won the United states women’s football league for her team,she also did a great job of qualifying Zambia for the Olympics,where she shown.
She deserves the global award my opinion though..

Kgatlana had a hand in ALL the 6 or 7 goals South Africa scored at the last WWC while our own Oshoala was neither here nor there for Nigeria, even in friendly games. At club level too, Kgatlana had a banner of a season for Houston Dash.
South Africans had the right to be disgusted for daylight robbery. If it had happen to Nigeria too we all would have been disgusted. There was no better women’s footballer in Africa in 2023 than her…lets face the truth head on.
