German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt have completed the signing of Nigeria international midfielder Raphael Onyedika, who has joined from Club Brugge on a contract through to June 2031, completesports.com reports.
Frankfurt announced the signing in a statement on their official website on Sunday.
According to Sport Bild Frankfurt are paying an initial fee of approximately €9m, with bonuses capable of taking the total package to €10m.
“Eintracht Frankfurt and Club Brugge have reached an agreement on the transfer of Raphael Onyedika. The Nigerian international has signed a contract running until June 30, 2031, and will wear the number 25 shirt,” the club announced.
“Onyedika won the Belgian league title twice with Brugge and—in addition to the Belgian Cup and Super Cup—also won the Danish Cup with FC Midtjylland, his first club abroad.
“In total, the defensive midfielder has made 268 competitive appearances at the senior level, including 24 matches in the UEFA Champions League over the past three seasons. The 1.84-meter-tall Onyedika has also earned 26 international caps for Nigeria’s senior national team, including an appearance at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.

“During his four years in Belgium, Onyedika was consistently one of the most frequently used players. Across all competitions, he made 40, 49, 52, and 42 appearances, respectively.”
Speaking after the completion of the deal, Frankfurt’s board member for sport Markus Krösche said: “Raphael Onyedika has not only impressed us with his physicality and strategic understanding of the game, but above all with his extraordinary consistency. At 25, he still has great potential and is an important building block in terms of the structure of our squad.”
Onyedika could make his first appearance for his new side may come in the DFB Cup, as Frankfurt are to take on fifth-tier side St. Tönis in the first round of the competition on 21 August. The Eagles travel to Union Berlin for their Bundesliga opener on 29 August.
Founded on 8 March 1899, Frankfurt have won the German Bundesliga title once in 1959, the DFB-Pokal five times (1974, 1975, 1981, 1988, 2018) the UEFA Europa League twice (1980, 2022) and finished as runner-up in the UEFA Champions League in 1960.
The team was one of the founding members of the Bundesliga at its inception and has spent a total of 57 seasons in the top division, thus making them the seventh longest participating club in the highest tier of the league.
