Bayer Leverkusen manager Kasper Hjulmand has faulted the referee’s decision to have awarded Arsenal a penalty in Wednesday’s first leg of the Champions League round of 16.
Recall that Arsenal were awarded a penalty in the 89th minute after Malik Tillman, who had earlier replaced the impressive Maza, brought down Madueke in the area.
Havertz stepped up against his former club and coolly slotted the spot-kick past Janis Blaswich, despite the goalkeeper’s fingertips getting to the ball.
Reacting after the game, Hjulmand stated that the referee was wrong to have awarded a penalty to the Gunners.

“I have mixed feelings.
“It was a very good performance against a top team – of course we are disappointed with the last scene. A 1-0 would obviously have been much better than a 1-1. I don’t see a penalty there, but that’s how it is.
“We are going to London with hope. I believe there is a lot of pressure on Arsenal. We must and we can deliver another strong performance.
“We have to seize the opportunity and are looking forward to Tuesday. But for now, Bayern is what counts.”
