Liverpool extended their new season winning streak to seven games after Georginio Wijnaldum’s soiltary match winner propelled the Reds to victory at Sheffield United Saturday, Completesports.com reports.
The Jurgen Klopp’s men are now unbeaten in seven games so far this season and sit pretty comfortable on top of the Premier League table on 21 points.
The afternoon clash saw the hosts match the Reds in exchanges but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
However, The European champions showed dominance in the second period and were rewarded when Wijnaldum shot into the bottom corner on 79 minutes.
Egypt striker, Mohammed Salah, came close to doubling the Reds lead on 78 minutes but the Pharaohs talismanic forward failed to slip the ball past Sheffield goalkeeper after dispossessing the home team’s defender.
Just three minutes before the final whistle, Origi was presented with a glorious opportunity to send Liverpool 2-0 up when he came to a positive end of a cross from the left inside the six yard box, but he directed his right l-footed effort waywardly over the crossbar.
As Liverpool resorted to game management, Klopp introduced Oxlade Chamberlain on 94 minutes as the Reds held stoically for a famous seventh straight win of the season.
