Day 11 (Sunday, 28 December, 2025)
Nigeria vs Tunisia Still Dominates AFCON Conversation
TWENTY-FOUR hours after Nigeria’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Tunisia on Saturday here at the AFCON 2025, the game is still the talk of the town as I write this diary. “Town” here refers not only to Fez where the match was played, but to the global landscape typified by the Internet and social media.

Social media, in particular, has been buzzing. Everyone has an opinion on Nigeria’s performance. Someone wrote that it was a game of ‘three halfs’ (sic). “First half belonged to Nigeria, second half belonged to Nigeria and the third half belonged to Tunisia.” Very creative.
Substitutions, Sloppy Finish And Chelle’s Promise To Improve
Just like me in my Open Letter to the coach, most commentators harped on Eric Chelle’s substitutions that backfired, and wondered why the Eagles can’t seem to close out a game with a clean sheet.
The coach has said he would “work on the bad things” that his team did. We would have to take his word for it.
Recovery Day For Super Eagles After Gruelling Clash
On this Sunday, I decided again to stay indoors. Super Eagles media officer, Promise Efoghe, had posted on the Whatsapp platform that he created to disseminate information to Nigerian journalists here at the AFCON 2025, that the players would only go to the gym for their recovery session. There would be no outdoor training so that the players could rest and recover properly from the exertions of the match against Tunisia.
Quiet Sunday, Prayers And Eyes On Uganda Press Conference
After breakfast, I returned to bed and pulled the thick blanket over my head again, only waking up intermittently to say my Solat (Muslim prayers). See you tomorrow (Monday) when the Eagles coach and captain would be addressing a press conference to preview their next game against Uganda.
