Former Super Eagles assistant coach Fatai Amoo has praised the team’s caretaker coach, Augustine Eguavoen and his players following their win over Libya.
The West Africans defeated the Mediterranean Knights 1-0 in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matchday three encounter.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru scored the decisive goal four minutes from time with Moses Simon providing the assist.
“So far, they have done quite well. in terms of the result we might say it didn’t meet public expectation, but we played well overall,” Amoo told Brila FM.

“Their defence prevented us from get many scoring opportunities; the Center forwards didn’t get much on the chances, but our wingers tried.
“Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman and even Samuel Chukwueze all did well. Perhaps we could have given Chidera Ejuke minutes too, he’s a good dribbler and that can help creatively in a game of that nature.”
“Honestly, the coaches did well with the substitutions in terms of creating chances. We only just need to reshuffle the team.”
“Our expectations are high because of past records, but if we bring in Pep Guardiola today, do you think he would be able to use some of the players that we have? Let’s be honest with ourselves.”

They re playing big boy football this current super eagles need a coach that can instill discipline a coach that doesn’t take nonsense when they see such a coach they will sit up.
Totally support your opinion here. Common Rwanda, big mighty Nigeria could only play zero, against them away. While, in the meantime, our former Oga thrashed Rwanda 3 zero. Lets wait and see what happens on Tuesday if Libya don’t turn
the table on us in their home ground. Boniface is there to make the number. How many games does he have to play before the coach realize that he is no good. Ejuke would, by far, play no 9 better the so-called Boni-ye-ye.
After Osimhen, mighty super eagle do not have any one to replace him in the center forward position. Fans are now calling him Boni-yeye, a club player only. The way he plays for Nigeria, no serious Club in Europe will take Boni-yeye serious. Believe me. Folks, go watch the match again, Boni-yeye is no where to be found. He was missing in action. Nigerians are begging the coach to please, play Ejuke on Tuesday.
@Edoman Una forget say them wrongly cancel Lookman goal else the scoreline against Rwanda would have been a win. Eguavoen has done well even though I don’t trust him yet. That guy called Talk Your Own is writing nonsense and think football is 1 plus 1 equals 2. If mr A win 5-0 then I must win 10-0 because I beat mr A 2-0 before so 2×5=10. Una self follow an dey affirm nonsense instead of giving credit when due.
Coach Eguadiola should not start as many as 5 players Onyeka , Boniface, Iwobi , Ndidi And Bruno next match let these guys be replaced by the following: For Onyeka Give us Yusuf, For misfiring Boniface give us an out of form Seniorman let him use his left footed shoot to silence Libya despite his poor form as well that is why Dessers should have been called, for Iwobi give us Dele Bashiru because he has better finishing than wasteful Iwobi, For Ndidi give us Onyedika and for Bruno bring Osayi but move to RB Aina to LB and play Osayi on th RB to compliment the team high pressing game.
The players I mentioned to be replaced doesn’t have the knack to create a goal situation and almost played us to draw against Libya if not for the introduction of Dele and co. Iwobi and Boniface that I like are not doing well and deserve to be dropped to the bench if we must also win the second leg.
Missing sitters upon Sitters. Iwobi and Boniface are weird especially Iwobi. Heading Zero shot zero can he cut that hair because he can’t use it to jump and impact a simple nodding from 6yards. Neither can redirect simple shoot into the net from same 6yards. Same issues with dancer Boniface. I don’t understand his romancing of the ball when he can create space like Osimhen and release some sniper to open his goal account instead Oga is Dancing alanta or whatever. Our first half against Libya and early second half before the sub was full of strange misses upon misses and this must be resolved else we will be waiting for Dele to rescue us again and we all know he can’t be scoring everyday coach should have called Dessers next match and drop out of form Awoniyi or my beloved Kelechi to the sword, lol until he catches form.
Eguavoen should make change in return fixture versus libya in Benina , he must dumb Boniface , then put lookman as forward , then put Ejuke in his position or put Ejuke as number (10) instead of Iwobi , then he Eguavoen can put Iheancho at Lookman position , this will make strong creativity to score more goals , so Super Eagles lineup as follows: Nwabili; Aina,Ekong,Bassey,Onyemaeche; Onyeka,Ndidi,Iwobi;Ejuke,Simon,Lookman or other lineup as follows: Nwabili; Aina,Ekong,Bassey,Onyemaechi;Oneyka,Ndidi, Ejuke;Iheancho,Simon,Lookman ; I think selection from these two lineups will do great mission for SE , they can score more goals , cause Lookman will be granted more passes to score than to put shaky Boniface who has wasted more chances to score…
