Nwankwo Kanu has described Emmanuel Amuneke as a winner and a man who consistently lives by the fear of God, Completesports.com reports.
Kanu made the remarks at the 55th birthday Novelty Match organised by the Association of Ex-Footballers (ASEF) in Owerri.
Amuneke’s Winning Mentality Earns Kanu’s Respect
‘Papilo’, as the former Super Eagles captain is fondly called, said Amuneke enjoyed an illustrious career at both club and international levels, stressing that his contributions to the national team laid a solid foundation for players of his generation.

“First and foremost, I want to say that Emmanuel Amuneke is my brother, my senior brother and our senior brother,” the Enyimba FC chairman began.
Fear Of God Sets Amuneke Apart — Kanu
Kanu said his admiration for Amuneke goes beyond football achievements, noting that his character and values stood out throughout his career.
“I have so much respect for him because he is someone who has the fear of God and puts it into practice at any time or place.
“And again, Amuneke is always a winner. In the national team, his goals came at critical times and won us several honours — AFCON 1994 and the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games.”
Amuneke’s Super Eagles Impact Still Felt Today
The former Arsenal striker added that Nigeria remains fortunate to have personalities like Amuneke, whose experience and leadership continue to inspire younger generations.
“We are blessed to have a brother like you. We pray that God grants you more years in sound health so that we can continue to tap from your experience and leadership,” Kanu concluded.
Ex-Internationals Light Up ASEF Novelty Match In Owerri
Also featuring in the novelty match held at the Nwankwo Kanu Sports Centre, Owerri, were Chikelue Iloenyosi, Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA), and former Super Eagles defender Mobi Oparaku, alongside several other retired footballers.
