Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has disclosed that he’s having sleepless nights facing Eddie Howe’s Newcastle in the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg clash at St. James Park on Tuesday.
Newcastle will aim to defend their 2024-25 EFL Cup triumph, while City are keen to reclaim the trophy for the first time since 2020-21.
Speaking with the club’s website, the Spanish tactician stated that he would have preferred a one-off game against Newcastle.

“I didn’t sleep tonight thinking about my genius on how to beat Eddie Howe. I prefer a one off game. I would love the semi-final to be one game.
“For many years since Howe took over, look how many games are won in the last minute. In that stadium it is special.
“No, I don’t know if it should be more pressure on them that they are champions.
“So they’ve done really well since many years, and now we are again, they won last season, semi-finals, and you’re right, they’re the champion, and the opportunity for a lot of new players to reach a final.”
