Ahead of Nigeria’s game against Uganda in the quarter finals of the ongoing 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Ike Shorunmu has warned the Flying Eagles coach, Ladan Bosso not to tamper with the team selection but maintain the winning team that played against Egypt and Mozambique.
Despite commencing their campaign on a losing note against Senegal in the opening match, the Flying Eagles bounced back to winning ways, beating host, Egypt 1-0 and Mozambique 2-0 respectively to qualify to the quarter-finals stages.
With the team set to face Uganda on Thursday, the Shorunmu in a chat with Completesports.com stated that technical crew led by Bosso must maintain a winning team without making unnecessary changes.
“I am very confident with the caliber of players that we have in the Flying Eagles at this tournament.
“However, having defeated Egypt and Mozambique, it will be good for the Ladan Bosso to keep the winning team for the game against Uganda.
“At this stages, there is no second chance if we decide to make any slight mistake. I am confident the players will defeat Uganda.”

Uganda is a playful team, we will have to be very careful, be very concentrated, they are a team a little above Mozambique, I watched all these matches, they could have won all these matches, so let’s stay serious and very focused and don’t underestimate them. The match against Senegal is full of lessons, in the first half, especially the first half hour, we played as if we were stronger than them and that we could crush them. This Nigerian team, they are certainly good, but they are not the best in this tournament, I believe that from what we have seen, the two best teams in the tournament are Senegal and Gambia, Nigeria only come ‘in position 3. Senegal and Gambia competed in the ufoa tournament in the group match and in the final, both were won by Senegal who won the ufoa cup 2022. This means that the level of these two teams is very high compared to the rest. Like many at the start, I thought it was an unbeatable team, but you have to recognize that this team is just good but no more than Senegal or Gambia, two mountains to lift to hope to win the cup.
