Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has advised Joao Cancelo to quickly adapt to the team’s style of football.
The German tactician, who hailed Cancelo’s performance against Real Oviedo on Sunday, told the club’s website that the Spanish defender must adjust to his philosophy.
“He’s just arrived, but we see his quality in training. He’s also done very well in some situations during the game, but he needs to adapt to our philosophy. We’re working on it.

“He needs to adapt a bit more. I also wanted to give Balde a rest, manage his playing time. He’s probably more of an attacking player than a full-back. He has room for improvement, but he’s already taken the first step. He started and played very well.”
Cancelo, 31, has re-joined Barca on loan for the second half of the 2025-26 campaign.
Cancelo spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Barca from Manchester City, recording four goals and five assists in all competitions.
