Athletes competing at the 2024 National Sports Festival have thumbed up hosts Ogun State for putting up first class facilities for the games.
The athletes however expressed concern with the distance of the Games Village, Babcock University to Abeokuta.
The Games Village is situated in Ilishan Remo which is around two hours drive from Abeokuta.
Team Enugu were walked over by Team Edo after arriving late for their men’s handball encounter on Monday.
“What we have here are first class facilities that you can see in other top countries in the world. The accomodation and arrangement at the Games Village is also commendable, Abubakar Isa, Team Enugu handball star told Completesports.com.
“The major obstacle we are facing is the long distance between Games Village and main centre here in Abeokuta. Moving from there to Abeokuta is quite tasking and we have suffered the effect already.
“We couldn’t arrive here on time for our game against Edo State and automatically lost the game.”

Isa’s view was corroborated by Haruna Idris an official of Team Niger.
“We have enjoyed our stay so far here in Ogun State. The people are friendly, and the facilities are top notch,” he declared in a chat with Completes ports.com.
“The only challenge we have encountered so far is having to come to Abeokuta from the Games Village which is quite far.”
For Naimat Ahmed, a women’s handball player with Team Sokoto, it is important to put into consideration the proximity of Games Village to event centres.
“The only thing I can complain about is the Games Village which is quite far from the capital, Abeokuta,” she asserted.
“The accomodation they provided for us in particular is really good.”
