Former Super Eagles star, John Ogu has warned CAF not to deprived Victor Osimhen the African Player of the Year Award.
Recall that Osimhen was one of the 30 nominees for the 2023 Africa Player of the Year award alongside the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Riyad Mahrez.
However, Ogu via his official X handle formerly known as Twitter, he stated that the Nigerian international has done enough to win the award.
He urged CAF to follow in the footstep of the Ballon d’Or award by naming the right player fpr the CAF award.

“Dear [CAF], I’m sure y’all saw the whole Ballon d’Or setting last night. This is exactly how we want such an award to be delivered and well organised for our star boy [Osimhen] as the best player in Africa. Thank you in advance,” he said.
The Nigerian international scored 26 goals for Napoli last season and led them to their first Serie A title in 33 years.
He was also the top goal-scorer during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with 10, according to TransferMarkt.

Im afraid he might lose it to a Moroccan player because of their feat at the world cup. If SE had gone to the world and Osihmen scored a couple of goals I’m sure he will win it hands down and he will have got a higher ranking than Alverez in the world ranking too
And when did playing in the world cup became a prerequisite to win the African player of the year?.
The voters are national team captains and coaches. Its a matter of their preference and/or popularity of a player and the clubs they play for.
Other factors like politics also play a bit of a role.
