Former Burnley striker Charlie Austin believes Mohamed Salah still remains the club’s talisman despite his controversial outburst.
The Egypt international was omitted from the squad that travelled to Italy for Tuesday’s 1-0 Champions League win at Inter Milan following a blistering attack on manager Arne Slot and the club hierarchy after being left on the bench for last weekend’s 3-3 draw at Leeds.
However, speaking with Sky Sports, Austin stated that the Egyptian international is an important player in the team and must be reintegrated when he returns from AFCON 2025.

“After this time, I don’t see why he doesn’t play for Liverpool again after AFCON. He’s Liverpool’s talisman, he is Liverpool’s best player.
“He needs to be involved in the club. Liverpool going on a poor run of form is solely on Salah, no surprise.
“But also, let’s be very clear: a lot of Liverpool players will be happy that Salah has taken the flak.”
