Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has praised Victor Osimhen after the striker was named CAF Men’s Player of the Year for 2023.
Osimhen made history as the first Nigerian to win the prestigious gong after Nwankwo Kanu won it 1999.
The Napoli hitman beat Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi and Egypt forward Mohamed Salah to the award.
The former Lille striker won the award largely thanks to his role in Napoli’s Serie A title win in the 2022-23 season.

During the title-winning campaign, Osimhen scored a league-leading 26 goals from 32 Serie A appearances, collecting the Capocannoniere award in the process, the first African player to do so.
He also contributed five goals in six UEFA Champions League appearances.
Peseiro took to the social media to celebrate Osimhen on his coronation as Africa’s best player.
