Former Super Eagles Coach Confident Ahead of New Challenge
Former Super Eagles Head Coach, Salisu Yusuf, has exclusively told Completesports.com that he has settled down at his new club, Coton FC of Cotonou, and is presently “arranging” the team in a bid to actualise his mandate with the 2024/2025 Benin Republic Ligue 1 runners-up.
The 63-year-old Yusuf assisted Samson Siasia in 2009 during his reign as Super Eagles Coach. In 2016, he was appointed as the Super Eagles Head Coach, having also served as assistant to the late Stephen Keshi in the senior national team.
Yusuf’s Track Record in Nigerian Football
Salisu Yusuf rescued Nasarawa United after replacing Coach Kabir Dogo in the second stanza of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

He has also enjoyed managerial stints with Kano Pillars, Enyimba, El-Kanemi Warriors, Rangers International and Nasarawa United.

Yusuf led Kano Pillars to the 2008 Nigeria Premier League title and guided Lobi Stars to the 2003 President Federation Cup triumph.
Focus on Pre-season Preparations
Speaking from his base in Cotonou on Sunday, Yusuf disclosed that his main focus now is fine-tuning the squad during the pre-season.
“For now, I’m trying to arrange the team,” Yusuf said when asked about his plans for the club ahead of their 2025/2026 CAF Champions League and domestic Ligue 1 campaigns.

Yusuf’s Mandate is to Rebuild and Win Titles
Coton FC finished second in the Benin Republic Ligue 1 last season and will join Dadje FC in representing the country in the 2025/2026 CAF Champions League.
The veteran Nigerian coach has been tasked with rebuilding the squad and guiding them to the 2025/2026 Ligue 1 title.
