Jose Mourinho claims Zinedine Zidane is a “fantastic” appointment for Real Madrid despite missing out on a return to the club.
The 56-year-old Portuguese tactician had been heavily linked with a move back to the Santiago Bernabeu when Santiago Solari was sacked following Los Blancos’ Champions League exit at the hands of Ajax last week.

Mourinho reportedly held talks with Real president Florentino Perez about a second spell in the Spanish capital, where he previously won La Liga and the Copa del Rey between 2010 and 2013.
However, the club opted to bring Frenchman, Zidane, back 10 months after he departed following the side’s third consecutive Champions League final success.
And, when asked about the decision to re-appoint him, Mourinho told El Chiringuito: “Zidane is perfect for Madrid and this is perfect for himself for another great opportunity to show how good he is with a new project after the fantastic things he has achieved in recent years. “I think it is perfect and fantastic.”
