DAZN host Kelly Somers has tendered an apology for former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi’s foul language about Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson after he was sent off against Flamengo at the ongoing 2025 Club World Cup.
Mikel, who is working as a pundit on DAZN’s coverage of the event, labeled Jackson ‘stupid’ and accused the 24-year-old of being ‘p***ed off’ that Chelsea have signed Liam Delap as competition for the center-forward role.

Recall that Delap made his first start against Flamengo before being withdrawn in the 64th minute. Four minutes later, Jackson was being led down the tunnel after a horror challenge on Danilo, with the Blues down 2-1.
It was at this point Somers was forced to apologize to the viewers for Mikel’s foul language after the Chelsea legend launched a scathing attack on Jackson.
“Lots of emotion as you can imagine in the studio right now, particularly from Mikel, so apologies for any language used there.”

Surprised how Mikel benched warmer throughout his career @ Chelsea bar for the UCL winning season have turned himself into small god of soccer, dude need stop blasting players.
Hahahaha……Mikel a bench warmer at Chelsea…..???
The stats say something different about a Mikel who played in the greates, star-studded Chelsea squad of all time
EPL: Squad: 292, Starting eleven: 183, Substituted in: 66, On the bench: 43
FA Cup: Squad: 37, Starting eleven: 29, Substituted in: 3, On the bench: 5

UCL: Squad: 87, Starting eleven: 44, Substituted in: 15, On the bench: 28

Total of 376 appearances in 10 seasons (Avg 37.6 games per season), started 3 out of 4 FA Cup Finals, 1 out of 3 League Cup finals, 4 out of 6 Community Shields, 1 out of 2 UCL Finals, and 1 out of 2 UEFA Super Cup finals.
Any player with these figures in such a star-studded team at that time would be considered a “Key player” or at worst a “Regular”…..not a ‘benchwarmer’ as you want to label Mikel.
Will Jackson even make the bench of that Chelsea squad of that era…..? I doubt it.
So let Mikel blast players; he has earned the right to do so.
Mikel is annoying. All these recent comments, post and hopping on peoples channels and podcast just to get attention and views. He should go to russia and talk to them. Oh wait they dont care for him, I wonder why.
And I get the general census that most Nigerians find him annoying too. He think hes the spokesperson for chelsea. I can tell the signing of developers in chelsea was his doing too. I mean just look at the amount. He thinks hes god. Everyday he has something to say. I dont even hear from drogba.
@Shuma. This is false. Mikel is a legend. He is free to speak his mind.
I don’t know why some people are just hating on John Obi Mikel, mikel is a pundit, he is just doing is job and unfortunately criticising player’s are part of the job.
That is why he gets invited to different shows like talksports, bein sports, channel 5, bbc sports and many other football/podcast shows to talk about football ⚽️.
Mikel is doing very well, he’s one of the most respected soccer pundit here in the .
Saying Mikel is a bench warmer is just wild!
Mikel, one of the most consistent , and decorated players to come out of Africa, a bench warmer?!
That’s just ludicrous and laughable.
You may disagree with his opinion on certain issues but that will never negate the fact that Mikel John Obi is a Nigerian legend. His trophy cabinet speaks for itself. And he won all trophies, medals as an integral part of the team, always on the field.
Simply put, Mikel Obi ,as a player, was Mr. reliable. And that’s fact.
