Former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has praised Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez’s brilliant performance against Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the 2025 Club World Cup on Sunday.
The Spanish goalkeeper was at his best, showing his mettle as he made several incredible saves to prevent the Paris club from scoring a goal.
Among his most impressive stops was a double save from Doue in the 17th minute, when the match was still goalless. Later in the game, with Chelsea in front, Sanchez denied Vitinha with a crucial diving save that kept PSG from mounting a comeback.
PSG came into the game as heavy favourites and are the reigning European champions but were downed by the Blues at the MetLife Stadium as Enzo Maresca’s men lifted silverware less than two months after winning the Conference League.

Sanchez was awarded the Golden Glove, which is given to the goalkeeper judged to be the best over the course of the tournament.
Speaking with DAZN, Mikel gave credit to the Spanish goalkeeper for his outstanding performance against PSG.
“I’m surprised, he had a really good game today. Credit when credit is due. He did play a good game today.
“This save here—brilliant save, strong hands. That’s what you need from a goalkeeper. When they don’t have much to do, when they are called upon, they are there to make saves.
“He did that today, brilliant play from him and I’m very, very happy for him. Maybe, hopefully, this gives him a lot of confidence going into the new season and we can see a much better Sánchez.”
