AFCON 2025 burst into life on Sunday night with a colourful and high-energy opening ceremony at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, marking the official start of Africa’s flagship football tournament and underlining its growing global stature, Completesports.com reports.

The opening ceremony was held shortly before the tournament’s first match between hosts Morocco and Comoros, which kicked off at 20h00 local time. The opening match and ceremony were believed to have been broadcast in around 180 territories worldwide, including emerging markets in Asia such as Japan and South Korea, parts of North and South America, Mexico and at least 18 European countries.
