Nigeria forward Sadiq Umar opened his Europa League goal account as Partizan Belgrade edged out Astana 2-1 in their Europa League clash on Thursday night.
Umar scored in each half of Thursday’s encounter to give the Serbian Super Liga outfit their first win in the secondary European tournament in this campaign.
Thursday’s triumph in Astana moved Partizan Belgrade to the top of Group L ahead of Manchester United and AZ Alkmaar, with four points from two games.
In another game, former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi featured for 90 minutes as Trabzonspor were held to a 2-2 draw by visiting Basel of Switzerland.
Anthony Nwaekeme came in as a second half substitute for Trabzonspor in the game.
At the Stade de Suisse, Sheyi Ojo who recently pledged his allegiance to Nigeria was in action for the entire duration of the game in Glasgow Rangers’ 2-1 away defeat to Swiss club, Young Boys.
Joe Aribo missed the game as a result of injury.
U-23 Eagles captain, Azubuike Okechukwu came in as a second half susbstitue in Istanbul Basaksehir’s 1-1 draw against German side, Borussia M’glabach.
Azubuike replaced Danijel Aleksic in the 46th minute.
Former Golden Eaglets captain, Rabiu Ibrahim was in action for 90 minutes in Slovan Bratislava’s 2-2 away draw against Portuguese club, Sporting Braga.

Sadiq Umar Makes Europa League Team Of The Week After Brace For Partizan Beograd
The top scorer for Nigeria U23 at the Rio 2016 Olympics Sadiq Umar has been rewarded for his brace in the Europa League for Partizan Beograd in their 2-1 win over Astana with a spot in the team of the week, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.
Umar who is on loan to the Serbian side from Italian Serie A side Roma struck both goals for his team to increase his goal count for the season to seven in nine games in all competitions.
The brace has not gone unnoticed by the technical team of European football governing body UEFA as he has been handed a spot in their weekly team of the week, usually compiled after round of games in the tournament which is Europe’s second club tournament when compared to the UEFA Champions League.
Jololo as Sadiq is called by close friends and associates made the two man attack of the team of the week alongside PSV Eindhoven forward Donyell Malen. Both players got a brace in the round of games that was played yesterday.
