The Ogun State Govt. and Lagos State Govt. have confirmed that former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been discharged from the hospital on Wednesday.
Recall that the two-time former heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medalist was involved in a car crash along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday, December 29, that killed two of his close associates and team members.
In a joint statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Ogun State, Kayode Akinmade, and the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Lagos State, Gbenga Omotoso on Wednesday, it was stated that the British boxer is gradually recuperating in his home.
They also expressed their condolences once again to the families of the deceased foreign nationals, Lateef Ayodele and Cina Gami.
“The Governments of Lagos and Ogun States once again commiserate with the families of Lateef Ayodele and Cina Gami, the two young men who tragically lost their lives in the unfortunate road traffic accident involving Anthony Joshua on December 29, 2025.

“We pray that the Almighty grants the repose of their souls and gives their families and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear this painful and irreparable loss.
“Anthony Joshua was discharged from the hospital late this afternoon. Although heavy-hearted and deeply affected by the loss of his two close friends, he was certified clinically fit and will continue his recuperation from home.
“Earlier today, Anthony Joshua and his mother were at a funeral home in Lagos to pay their final respects to their departed friends, as preparations were made for their repatriation scheduled for later this evening.
“The Governors of Ogun and Lagos States, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, and Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, deeply appreciate the overwhelming public concern, compassion, and show of love expressed by Nigerians and well-wishers following this very sad and unfortunate incident.
“The two Governors also express profound appreciation to Mr. President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his fatherly support and personal concern throughout this period.
“We further commend and appreciate the team of doctors and medical personnel at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, who attended to Anthony Joshua and others injured in the accident. Their professionalism, dedication, and quality of care are truly commendable.”
