Today its clear we are not relying on wingbacks as collin is a bit rusty after coming back from a lay off as a result i wish the two wingbacks will not attack and focus on the pacy South Africa wingers and let our forward wingers of musa and chukwueze run the show alongside ighalo and iwobi. Etebo and ndidi will hold the middle no shaking.

Up naija eagles are winning today! Amen.

These South Africans seem to be too motivated. Apart from that, they can’t match us Skil vs Skil.

May God give us the day

As I said, can we see that challenge on Awaziem just now?? That tackle warrants a straight red, it could very easily have broken our defenders leg at the ankle! This is what I was saying, this is the Bafana players tactic, it will be gra gra and arms house all evening! God keep our players safe in Jesus mighty name. Amen!
Bafana bafana are armed convicts coached by a twisted colonialist! we must be very wary of them and show them no mercy!!

We need to send bafana banan packing back to blomfontaine vis wolverhampton. They are in our league, this one is not their load, different levels. Period!

Very good first half, guys please continue to deny them spaces in the middle, Musa final decision making needs serious improvement, Iwobi should continue to track back to help Ndidi and etebo,. So far good game by the super Eagles.

we missed alot of chances today. Ighalo needs to understand the wingers more. He is not reading the lines well. Lastly, Troost Ekong will get a chieftancy title in Akwa Ibom. What a way to score a goal!!!

He will go down as one of the best defenders in the history of Nigeria

Wow, what a match! Nigeria put up a highly tactical performance today. 4-4-1-1, transitioning into 4-4-2. Very tight marking of Tau in particular. Iwobi was great today. Chukwueze seems to read CSN. No yeye dribbling today. Quick passing, and dribbling with a purpose. Etebo and Ndidi did a magnificent job in the middle. Akpeyi is improving game by game. Awaziem put in an assured performance at right back. Overall, a rate the whole team very highly. Fantastic job by Gernot Rohr. Today’s match shows he is capable of mixing it up tactically when he needs to. Definitely one of the best tactical performances I have seen from the Super Eagles in a while. So, what do I do with this swee, ripe, yellow bananas? I know? I go wack am with groundnut! Or, I go take am do banana smoothie! UP EAGLES!!!

Talk about ball control, the way he cushioned dat pass, abeg 3 gboza for d kid. Musa and chukwueze really tormented d south Africans today. Although there was a spell there were SA got into d game a lil but nothing threatening. The entire team played well even igalo. This was a matured display by the team. they controlled the game well and managed it out to see us thru. Etebo and ndidi were massive. Tau was rendered useless today, Lorch was crap, their entire forward line was pocketed by our defense. The only standout player for SA was Zungu as he kept probing. Good job SE.

I can tell you for free that there are some people who hate this coach for real. There are some who have been praying for the SE to lose… they have been praying for Rohr to be sacked since last year.
Imagine the day we qualified for this afcon with a game to spare, one agent of darkness was calling for his sack.
If you don’t have a man, why will you call him names like dumb, bastardized etc. Why will you be praying h looses, why will you be happy he lost his 2nd game in 3 years. Why will you want him to be sacked wen he has only lost 2 games in 26 against African opposition…?
            .
There is a big difference between constructive criticism and pure hatred. What these agents of backwardness have against this coach is pure hatred. But you know what… He whom God has anointed… No man can harass.

Super Eagles defenders and midfielders supported the attack scoring from set pieces. They are a better team that way, Ekong did it Omeruo did it. Chukwueze and Musa cutting from the wings defending compactly they are fantastic. Chukwueze in particular was amazing, but losing the ball is unacceptable and Musa is really guilty of decisive decisions that should’ve buried the game before the VAR drama.

To be honest I was a little skeptical about Moses Simon replacing Musa instead of Onyekuru at that moment, but before i know it Simon was tormenting the South Africans defense and produce a delightful cross from corner kick for warrior Ekong to steer home. It was an overall fantastic team display by the SuperEagles and kudos to coach Rohr for his reading of the game and timely substitution. #FLY LIKE AN EAGLE INTO THE FUTURE. UP SUPEREAGLES!!!!!

This cup is ours. I believed it before. Today, these boys have given me even more reason to believe. At the moment, Nigeria is the strongest team in the Afcon. Unless ALG/CIV can produce something more than what we have seen of them so far, we will beat them in the semis. The only team that can stand with us is Senegal, and based on the performance of them and us today, I think we have the edge! If we just maintain the level of today’s performance, or improve on it, the cup is there for the taking.

Nigeria 2-1 South Africa: Five Things We Learnt From The Match

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have qualified to the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations after beating South Africa 2-1 in the quarter-final at the Cairo International Stadium on Wednesday.

Following the victory, Soccernet.ng’s Augustine Akhilomen x-ray five things we learnt from the match.

      Compact Midfield

Nigeria’s Super Eagles made the game more comfortable against South Africa due to the team compact midfield. The duo of Oghenekharo Etebo and Wilfred Ndidi were solid in the heart of the midfield, intercepting most balls being played by the South Africans midfielders.

      Free-flowing Flanks

Nigeria went back to their old style of play by playing from the flanks as Ahmed Musa and Samuel Chukwueze gave the South Africans wing backs a run for their money. Their attacking instinct also reduced Bafana Bafana from making any serious threat.

      Poor Finishing

Super Eagles’ profligacy in front of goal has been the team’s major problem at the Africa Cup of Nations and it was quite obvious when the team played against South Africa.

Players such as Odion Ighalo, Wilfred Ndidi, Ahmed Musa, Chukwueze had chances to bury the game but could only manage to score just one goal before paying dearly for their missed opportunities.

      Rohr’s Late Substitutions

Gernot Rohr may have done a good job by qualifying Nigeria to the 2018 World Cup and also AFCON 2019, however, his lack of vision to make early substitutions have caused Nigeria more harm than good.

With the team leading 1-0 till 78th minutes, it was expected that Rohr would make changes, but he delayed which allowed South Africa to net the equalizer. However, Nigeria nicked the victory at the eleventh with William Troost-Ekong scored the winning goal.

      Players’ Determination to win

The team’s determination to win today’s encounter against South Africa showed the fighting spirit among the players despite some early flaws that almost cost the team.

At the end of the day, after all is said and done and the crooked referee has colluded with Bafana and failed and the bafana criminals have tried their worst with all the gra gra they can muster and failed and now the dust has settled, it turns out that there was no cause for alarm in the first place, the game played out as it should have and it was a classic case of “men against boys”, the Super Eagles are head over shoulders better than that rabble from down the dirty south. We controlled the game from start to finish, they knew Samuel would be the scourge of the drunks from way down in the dirty south so they put one on him early doors, attempting to take him out the game by foul means, however it was not to be and the young boy Samuel not only shrugged off the burly drunk miners rash and dangerous potentially leg breaking tackle to stride on majestically and punish the dirty bafanas, yes he made them pay a hefty price and with a staunch contribution from one of ours with a tenous connection via a dutch origin with those erstwhile slaves from around the johanesburg areas, the die was cast and cream had risen to the top – As it is bound to do. Shame on you bafana bafana, shame on the lad Baxter from wolves way, all hail Rohr, Nigeria and the boys! Now on to bigger and better…Bring on CIV or whoever is man enough to stand before the mighty Eagles…Fly high ye Super Eagles, the summit…Our summit is but a couple of steps away. See you all at the top of the perch!
PS – Please leave Musa alone! He is worth his weight in Gold!
      The boy Chukwueze is Good!
      Ighalo still rules the roost!
Please leave Obi on the Bench, only to be brought on in dying minutes of games we have already put to bed!
Finally leave oga Rohr alone! Show some common sense, decorum and respect!
      I no fit shout!

once again nice performance from the super eagles, I think I will agree with some point from Beejay Royal. truly the midfield was well organized the two anchor man(ndidi and etebo) intercepting passes in d midfield and a good pass from iwobi for d opening goal.
our wings was very effective how will it not be effective when we have musa the runner and chukwueze the dribbler which defense wan hold them.
and one of d reason for winning this match is bcos of d team determination to win which we saw in d players in 2days victory. The Almighty Allah shall bless our boys for job well done.up super eagles!

I have been skeptical about the tactics of Rohr but I’m very impressed today. Arguably, this is the best Nigerian match I have seen in this tournament. Congratulations to all Nigerians home and abroad. It didn’t bother me that I was inside the train when I yelled goal with the Samu’s goal. If not for the wasteful chances, South Africa won’t even dream of coming back. Kudos to the coach and most especially the players. When players are doing well, praise the coach and if the result goes in another, the coach should take responsibility. We are clearly better than the South Africans, our wives. I will still like to see what Henry can offer though but now its not the time, let me savor the win. God bless Nigeria; the pride of Africa.

      Wowww
I have been sitting back to watch and read all ur comments.
I did not want to comment, but let me chip this in.

Well çongrats to all of us, congrats to super Eagles.

I know we are all carried away with the victory but unfortunately not me and a selected few.

Some things are still very critical.

I sat in the comfort of my house and watch the match from start to finish and I must say the boys had some determination today to win and that’s kudos to them.

How ever, it is a pity how African football has fallen drastically.

The boys were tactically discipline but were docile and blunt going forward.
This match should have been 4:0 actually.

Good at creating opportunities and when it gets to the crucial moment lack of decision creeps in.

I want to thank the coach for the first time for removing Musa, who forgot he is also a striker and looks to carelessly pass the boy even when he has legs to shoot and in a better position.

What stops rohr from also removing Ighalo, who is very bad with positioning and lacks the strikers instinct requisite for a no 9.

Sometimes I wish I could make those changes my self, but what do I know!.

After we were two goals up, Ighalo and not Iwobi should be replaced for Balogon or Mikel or ogu who can hold balls and defend too.
This is because I thought to myself what if the SA equalises how do u play ur extra times without iwobi?

Despite the recent victories, the profession ineptitude of Rohr still comes too glaringly at my face and I can’t keep mute.

Wait oo Balogun was introduced as what? Defender or midfielder? because I saw his aimless pass to simon I just wondered.

At that time u can play a false 9 kind of tactics and bring in oyekuru or osihmen, who to him is falling down like a kid without strength.

      Chai!

Any way am just talking my own. The game sweet every body.

Akpeyi is gradually getting my trust back though our defend is becoming a rock enough that in a full 90mins he is barely tested.

Kudos to the big men at the back.

      I fear Algeria oooo.

U na watch that team, very rough and fast. I think they need that kind no nonsense ref of our match yesterday.

A cheerful giver of cards. Hahahahaha

Let’s enjoy the moments any way!
