Abdulrahman Bashir [pictured above] has exclusively told Completesports.com that he will assume his new role as Head Coach of Nigeria National League (NNL) side, ABS Ilorin FC, on Monday, 2 February 2026.
The former ABS Ilorin FC, Enyimba, Nasarawa United, Wikki Tourists, Sunshine Stars and Plateau United forward was recently appointed Head Coach of the second-tier league side after completing an ABS Ilorin FC-sponsored coaching course at the Nigeria Institute of Sports (NIS).

The 35-year-old told Completesports.com on Saturday morning that he will remain eternally grateful to the Dr. Abubakar Saraki-owned club for giving him the platform and opportunity to pursue his coaching ambition and give back to society.
Bashir’s Appointment Fulfils Bashir’s Long-Held Coaching Ambition
“I’m very happy that I was found worthy of being part of the coaching staff of my former club, ABS Ilorin FC,” Abdulrahman Bashir began when Completesports.com contacted him on Saturday morning.

“I’ll join the team on Monday, 2 February, when the squad reconvenes for preparations ahead of the second stanza of the league.”
Bashir said he is eager to embrace life as a coach following an illustrious playing career that began in 2013 with ABS Ilorin FC.

“You know, as a footballer, you always look forward to coaching after your playing career. You want to remain around the game,” he explained.
“So, I’m happy that this appointment is giving me the opportunity to fulfil that dream.
“More importantly, I’m starting my coaching career with the same club that brought me into the limelight. I look forward to the challenge — to say thank you to the club and give back to society,” the former left-footed forward added.
ABS Ilorin FC Coaching Path Began After Unexpected Career Turn
Reflecting on how the new chapter began, Coach Bashir admitted that his journey into coaching was not immediate.

“After I retired from football — not because of injury or anything — one would have expected me to remain within the football circle. But that wasn’t the case.
“I took up a job with a company that had nothing to do with football or sports.”
He continued.
“Somehow, maybe someone spotted me — and you know the power of social media. One day, I was contacted by ABS Ilorin FC and offered a coaching course opportunity at the NIS.
“It felt like a dream. I wondered if it was real. But it turned out to be reality, and after completing the course, I was given a coaching appointment.”
