The National Sports Commission (NSC) has congratulated Team Nigeria on securing qualification to the Davis Cup World Group II after a commanding 3–1 victory over Uzbekistan at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.
The NSC sent the congratulatory message in a statement posted on its X handle.
“This historic achievement was delivered through the collective effort of the Nigerian squad Daniel Adeleye, Canice Abua, Michael Emmanuel, Uchenna Oparaoji, and Yusuf Abubakar, whose discipline, resilience, and belief carried the nation to a defining international milestone.
“The decisive moment came with Nigeria holding the advantage before Daniel Adeleye produced a composed 6–3, 6–4 victory in the reverse singles over Ilya Ignatov to confirm promotion and ignite celebrations across the country.
“The Commission also recognises the wider national team structure and technical leadership that supported this success, including additional squad members and officials who contributed to preparation and execution of the campaign.
“Nigeria’s return to World Group II stands as a powerful signal of RENEWED progress in tennis development and competitive excellence. It reflects sustained commitment to athlete preparation and institutional support in line with the RHINSE framework.
“The National Sports Commission commends the players, coaches, federation leadership, and supporters whose unity made this achievement possible.”
