Bafana Bafana made the perfect start, scoring the curtain raiser after seven minutes.
Tshepang Moremi lifted the ball over Arubi after the ball was deflected onto to his path.
Tawanda Maswanhise equalised for Zimbabwe in the 19th minute with a moment of magic.
Maswanhise weaved past several defenders before unleashing a powerful shot into the net.

South Africa regained their lead through Lyle Foster five minutes after the break.
The decisive moment arrived in the final quarter of an hour. Following a VAR review, the referee awarded South Africa a penalty for a handball by Marvelous Nakamba.
Oswin Appollis stepped up and calmly converted from the spot in the 82nd minute, extending South Africa’s lead and seemingly settling the contest.
Zimbabwe reduced the deficit following an own goal by Aubrey Modiba.
South Africa finished second in Group B with six points, while Zimbabwe will return home after finishing bottom of the group with just one point.
Egypt finished top of the group with seven points after drawing 0-0 with Angola.
