Real Salt Lake has made a significant move in trying to boost its attacking options by signing impressive Nigerian forward William Agada from Sporting Kansas City. The 25-year-old has proven effective since moving to the MLS, scoring 10 goals last season for a struggling side.
Last time around, Real Salt Lake produced a strong regular season, finishing sixth overall, before limping out in the first round of the playoffs against Minnesota United, and coach Pablo Mastroeni will be hoping for an improvement in this campaign.

Real Salt Lake have not started the season well, falling to seven defeats in their first 11 games, and has managed just twelve goals in the process, hence the need to bring in a player of Agada’s obvious talents. The club’s Chief Soccer Officer, Kurt Schimd, discussed the signing, commenting.

Before moving to the United States, Agada was a prolific goalscorer during a five-year spell in Israel, where he represented a number of teams, including Hapoel Jerusalem and Hapoel Haifa.
The need for more firepower at Real Salt Lake is hardly surprising given that Pablo Mastroeni lost the services of Colombian forward Cristian Arango in January.
He netted 25 goals in 52 games for the America First Field franchise before moving to the San Jose Earthquakes, with whom he has already scored seven goals and is currently the joint top scorer in the league, which is just an idea of what Real Salt Lake is missing.
Real Salt Lake has apparently come very close to further boosting their attack by signing Slovakian striker Robert Boženík, but that deal didn’t go through in the end, a move that Schmid was sad to see fail to materialize.
“It’s unfortunate it didn’t work out.”
“Not through any fault of his own or, if I could say, our fault.”
By all accounts, the Boavista forward’s deal came apart when the Portuguese team looked to renegotiate at the final hurdle.
“It was his club coming in after essentially agreeing to a deal, trying to change the terms at the last minute.”
“They took a gamble that didn’t pay off for them,” Schmid added.
Real Salt Lake have also brought in Agada’s Sporting Kansas City teammate, Scottish international Johnny Russell. The 35-year-old wide man enjoyed six productive seasons in Kansas City, netting 60 goals in 196 appearances, and offers another option for Mastroeni’s attack.
