Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) has confirmed that 24 August 2025 is the official kick-off date for the Anambra State League, which is being sponsored by Akubudike Energy Limited, Completesports.com reports.
Anambra State League Decade-Long Absence Ends
The South-East state has been without an organised State League for over a decade. That is about to change as the Chief Chikelue “General” Iloenyosi-led ANSFA board has stepped up efforts to revive structured football competition in the state.
“We’re delighted to announce the commencement of preparations for the Anambra State Football League 2025,” ANSFA said in a statement signed by its Secretary, Raphael Nweke, on behalf of Chairman Chikelue Iloenyosi.

“The revitalised competition is aimed at deepening football development across all communities in the state,” the statement added.
Anambra State League Format and Inclusion Drive
The statement explained that this year’s edition of Anambra State League will begin with a preliminary knockout round, specially introduced to onboard new community teams and football academies across the State.
Matches in this phase will be played on neutral grounds between paired teams to ensure fairness and promote inclusivity.
All qualifying teams — from both communities and newly formed clubs — will proceed to the Main Anambra State League League Draw Ceremony, the date of which will be announced after the preliminaries conclude.
Anambra State League 2025: ₦4 Million Prize Money at Stake
The competition boasts a total prize fund of ₦4 million. The overall winners will receive ₦2 million, runners-up ₦1 million, the third-placed team ₦500,000, and the fourth-placed side ₦200,000.

In addition, there will be ₦50,000 each for the Best Goalkeeper, Highest Goal Scorer, Most Valuable Player (MVP), and Best Behaved Team.
‘Win-Win’ for Anambra Football
“It’s a win-win competition,” said Iloenyosi, a former Super Eagles defender and current Chairman of Anambra State FA.
